Renthal bars...HELP PLEASE

Post by Tiny_TomLeighton »

Hi all,

I am street fighting my storm and i am looking for some advice on the bars and risers please.

I want a more upright position as I'm very tall but am worried about the following:

1, how high should the risers be? will i need to change any cables? how high can i go without changing cables? (prefer NOT to change cables if poss)

2, should i get angled risers? whats pro's/con's

3, seen some 'cnc clamp on risers' [url]http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/5233 ... Wheels/url]
would these work? or do i need the expensive top yoke kit?

4, im a big lad 6'7" 18stone, should i get 28" fat bars?

5, How hard is it to actually change all this over? what should i look out for?

Looking for anyone who has changed their bars and can give me good solid experienced answers to the above, and I'm positive from reading other posts that I'm in the right place

Also any other 'street fighter' top tips are always welcome with me so feel free to bombard me.

Many thanks to you all in advance.
Regards

T.

yep 1" bar clamps
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pro-Taper-Ove ... 3465wt_987
and renthal ultra low bars
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renthal-Super ... 1550wt_932
i use standard cables and brake lines , the horn wires need to be made longer but thats it .
if you go higher you will need longer lines and cables

its better but not sit up and beg style .
it takes the pressure off your hands and for-arms .
if i was to use it for every day transport then i would go higher .

Thanks buddy.

Looks like i will go higher then and change the lines etc, I intend to use it quite a lot. Maybe same rise but higher bars perhaps.

Have you just changed your profile picture  i was enjoying watching her lol

No all fairings will be going, headlight change, clock change and obviously the bars.

i posted this in response to a similar post in another thread a little while ago, but it seems apt to re-post it here....

........ maybe a bit of historical context wouldn't go amiss, from someone who was there at the time, and involved in building them....

streetfighters evolved in the UK in the mid 80's as a b8stard offspring of 'diggers' and drag bikes.
diggers were a style of chop/low rider from So Cal that grew in the late 70's/early 80's. long, low, clip ons, rear sets, tuned harley or big Zed motors and loadsa metalflake....

this style was crossed with the 'hard as nails' look of the drag bike

and came about primarily from the launch of the 'hyper-sports' bikes from japan in the mid '80's. people used to riding Z650's and CB750's suddenly found themselves on GSXR750's, and then in casualty, and the bike ended up in a breakers, which was good news for people like me who took the motors, wheels and forks and bunged them into modified old british rigid chop frames, thus creating the new 'streetfighters'.... we tuned the motors with the only available stuff at the time; drag race parts.
a streetfighter is all about aggressive looks and performance, not bling.

so, a streetfighter should have a megga tuned motor, look aggressive as f*ck, and be rigid.
quite how, and why, the term came to be hijacked by the gay, tarts handbag, renthals and twin spots brigade is a mystery, and a source of imense frustration.

AHHH sh1t, HE'S BEEN SET OFF AGAIN

In all fairness Rob, I think you may be missing somehting (or I am)...a lot of old sports bikes are now classed as sports tourers due to the fact that compared with modern machinery there isnt much sporty about them. Is this not the same evolutionary process that so called "Streetfighters" have gone through. Yes maybe back in the land of old they were what you describe, however people have obviously decided that the new vein of "fighters" is what you now refer to as the blue oyster bar club lol

As regards the OP.....Honda CB400 Super 4 top yokes fit straight on with no mods. This allows you to keep that standard honda look (with honda badge on the yoke ) and have the hole pre drilled for you to allow for risers to bolt through

Aldo, it just so happens that I have a tatty spare one

Snoogle - thanks buddy. I'll pm you about the yokes later. Sounds like a good way to go.

Rob. - Thanks for the history lesson, unfortunately that's just what it is, history. Things change as does the terminology and the general meaning of words.

I'm glad re-posting that made you all nostalgic and re live your youth briefly, personally I didn't realise they had Internet in nursing homes now, well you learn something new everyday :-)

Have you tried the forum http://www.homophobic.miserable.old.gits.org

i did write out a witty response to your post, but i really can't be bothered interacting with someone who needs to ask such basic beginners questions, and then takes the piss out of someone who has over 30 years bike building/customising experience to share.
