Dyno k&n jets

Post by Vtrkidda »

Hello chaps I know throughing money at my storm might not be the best idea so some might say :shifty:

but whats the cost fitted for a dyno jet kit , k&n I can do myself  and dyno runs to improve the carb tinkering

Cheers in advance

I just dont want to fit a kit and it runs like a bag of poopy poop

Is the price worth the gains :confused :?:

So far ive got the throttle mod, long stacks, new filter and plugs, got a 15 tooth front sprocket yet to be fitted was going to bennys today but rain stopped play

Oh and carbon can comp cans

Fitting the dynojet kits not that bad, bit of a pain getting carbs back on and you have to be carefull drilling the slides, iirc the kit supplies 3 jet sizes, think i used the middle size and the bike ran spot on. Was running DJ kit, K&N filter and Arrow cans, didn't need to spend money on dyno time,

I tried a smaller front sprocket and found it didn't really suit the bike, settled for 1 up on the rear and it was good.

This was all on my old Firestorm.. the new (to me) one may get the same treatment, time will tell :)

tbh just get on ebay and get some keihin main jets, 180 - 195
then go to b&q & get a pack of m3 brass washers for a quid.

jobs a good un.
dj kit is a waste of money imo. you only need 2 jets out of the kit and the needles are crap.
if you want to pay £80 for 2 main jets then go ed lol!

i have got an ebay receipt somewhere for a seller who's reliable cheap and fast but its buried somewhere lol.

btw dont buy 180 - 195 dynojet mains as they are actually smaller than the ones you have in atm lol!
you need the 6mm thread keihin jets.

Are the 180-195 jets a tried and tested method Benny??

i meant a range of jets between those sizes, not just a 180 & 195 jet.
with a k&n plus open cans you will need to go up 5-10 sizes over standard..... cost of the jets about 20-25 quid.
if you look on google you will probably find packs of 10 jets in assorted sizes.
you get better results not bothering with the extra lift hole and just jacking the standard needles.

there is a thread on this somewhere, pasted from superchicken, with dyno results iirc.

also means you wont have to eventually replace the emulsion tubes when the dj needles file them oval!

Sorry to start this thread off again but,

Where would the 'm3 brass washers go for jacking up the needle'?

And how many washers would be a good starting point?

I already gave you the link to Hawks carb set up guide on the superhawk site. If you read that you would understand where the shims/washers go.
http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/te ... -up-24769/

You can only richen the needles by adding shims. you can not lean the midrange out at all. The shims go under the e clip which raises the needle which richens the midrange.

If you want to go down the route of using a standard filter then this would work fine. But with the K&N I think you may have a challenge.

Just got back from a ride out with a freshly fitted k&n filter. Its running better than ever now, very smooth yet responsive with no flat spots or coughs.

I have scorpion low levels with no baffles and a pair of long stacks in the airbox and a dynojet kit no other mods.

The carbs are set up with 180 mains (dynojet sizes) and dynojet needles on the 4th groove. The slides are drilled for the 3rd hole. The mixture screw is 2 1/4 turns out on the front and 2 1/2 turns out on the rear carb.

Bought the laser carb screwdriver from machine mart and it only just fits but works fine.
