Mornin All,
Not even got my storm yet but hope to get it in the garage once it passes the MOT next week. It's a question of size I have. I know my storm is a 2001 registration but i would guess its an earlier model ie 2000 due to smaller tank.
I know this has always been an issue for the grunty 1000cc engine but how far am i gonna go on a tank. If i was riding super nicely which is possible now and again, what sort of distance could i achive on a tank.
and whats the realistic reserve fuel range.
over to you... thanks

I've had the reserve light on as low as 70 miles, when it's had a thrashing, if I drive mine sensible can get 110+ miles till light comes on. But sensible is boring with these..

With the carbs set right you should get 100 to 110 from the small tank even with spirited riding. Worst I ever had was 75 on a track day .
The rule is to run your odometer on trip setting all the time, zero it at every fill up (fill it with you sitting on bike, not leant over on side stand to get most in) and look for a petrol station as you get beyond 95 miles on the trip.

My light comes on at around 70-80 miles but its mostly town riding. When doing the Cornwall trip to visit the daughter I was seeing 100 miles or so before the red light came on. If your planning long journeys I would factor in petrol stations every 80 - 90 miles just to be on the safe side. I tend to start hunting a petrol station the moment I see a read light if I am in an area I know. Anywhere else I start looking out for stations at around 80 miles or so.
Makes it a good excuse to stretch your legs.

on a ride-out around the yorkshire dales with a few mates and misses on the back I got 118 miles till light came on then stopped at 135 miles to refuel, do I have a freek storm or has it been tweeked on the dyno
I will try a solo ride with fuel can strapped to the back and run it out completely to find the full range but i recon it would be 140miles

Depending on your ride you can have reserve come on from 65ish to 130ish, average use would see a return of 100 miles to your 13ltrs (16ltr tank - 3 ltr reserve)
See this post here for your info on mpg and cost factors >

Very limited experience as i've only owned it for 180miles but the first 86mile journey of 60-70mph dual carriage way returned 51.4mpg. The second stint of 84 miles of what i would consider more normal riding returned 40.1mpg....no doubt it will only fall from here as i get used to the bike.
As i understand it there are just under 3 usable gallons in the tank (3lt reserve??) so i would imagine just shy of 150miles in the first instance and just short of 115 in the second? All i do know is that after 86miles i needed to get off and stretch anyway.

I was out at Hastings on Monday. I came home via the A272 (scenic route) and managed 100.4 miles without the red light coming on. This is the first time I have ever seen 100 miles on the bike without either filling up or getting the little light. Result!

I had the "pleasure" of having to refill at Almeria Circuit after a paltry
56 miles!!!
And that's from brimming it at the start of the day!! Track days... Fun but expensive!!

That'll be riding like there was a speed camera round every corner, mostly because on the Mayday run there IS a speed camera round every corner!
