Engine Misfire on Tickover

Post by veefour »

Hi, went to take my '98 storm for it's MOT yesterday ( passed ok ), but i noticed when on tickover every minute or so the engine faultered for a split second. Don't think it was fuel it was just like a electrical cut out, on the road it was ok, i gave it a good blast ( legaly of course ) but the problem is still there on tickover. Does anyone have any clues as to what it could be. The bike has been laid up over winter by the way, but engine started every few weeks.
Cheers.
Dave.

It's a standard airbox cough back through the carbs.
They all do it.

Get the carbs balanced and turn the tickover up to 1400, that should clear it except very occasionally.
New plugs might help as well, but do the others first.

And once a few tanks of fuel go through the it'll take some of the gummy deposits out that occur when you leave fuel in a bike over the winter.

Should be fine after that.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
