Operation Storm II – Part three – Videos

Post by geodude »

Thought I'd start a separate thread for the vids to make it easier for those that are interested to watch and those that are not to ignore.

Just a quick vid to whet your appetite. I am having trouble with my PC and editing software but i'll do me best :)

That works real good as a preview vid. My only constructive criticism is that there is too many fade to black transitions. Mix up with a few crossfades. Like the the way you have considered the music and the timing of shots.

Nice one.

Thanks for the feedback. It is appreciated and keep it coming. The fade to black transitions were purposely inline with the guitar riff throughout the first 24 bars. I did try crossfades but it doesnt have the same impact against that particular music choice. I have many other transitions that I'll try and use but I am limited by this POS PC

The reason I mentioned the Black fade is because I found it too harsh on the eye. Sometimes just a straight cut with no transitions at all works best. It is very easy to OD on transitions when editing. A nice alternative to the fade is to overlay to shots say by 10 frames. Then fade one out by lowering the opacity (Keyfame) while fading the other in. That way you can control the opacity and not have it fade out to black. It's a more subtle effect. Are you using Adobe Premier by any chance?

I'm not slagging you work off, it's bloody good what you have done. But as someone who does a bit of video post production I can't help being critical. I even do it when I'm watching TV

Keep up the good work buddy.

I don't see it as slagging off mate. I really do appreciate the feedback  . I usually just make the vids and thats it. To get some good quality feedback is useful and from someone else who does it is even better. I'm using vegas10 8)

@carl Youtube search for "Ride-out - Loomies to Whiteways - Part 1" Is that the type of transition you mean?

Sony vegas is supposed to be a very good bit of software, not used it myself. As an Apple man I use Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, a bit of Lightwave 3D as well as all the day to day Adobe stuff.

Just watched Ride-out - Loomies to Whiteways - Part 1, yes there are a few in there. What's good about it is, not only can you control the length, but you can control the amount of opacity on each clip within the transition.

I really really enjoyed watching Ride-out - Loomies to Whiteways - Part , the footage, the music, spot on. Watched it three times in a row. Great use of still frames and titling. What's the soundtrack you used, I really like it? It's like a cross between Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield and Air.

I so badly want to get myself a HD Extreme cam. Gonna have to start researching them. You have inspired me :biggrin

Watching Leaving England just makes me excitedly looking forward to next year. I have yet to do the Seven Bridge.

Keep up the good work. Well done

Sony Vegas is way better than my abilities and my PC’s capabilities which is why I have to only use basic functions. Anything to complicated and my PC will explode. It’s useful though as I would probably end up with 30 different transitions in a vid. Lol

Glad you liked that rideout vid. I am still disappointed with the ending though but oh well. The Music is by Xerxes and very cool. I use it a lot and will no doubt use a track for the OP Storm vids.

GoPro HD2 is where it’s at. I have the Drift HD170 which is very good but the mounting system is poor. I only run it at 720p 25fps as my PC can’t handle editing anything higher res.

I wanted to stop editing and head back to Wales. I like the fact that whist editing, its constantly reminding me of what a great weekend it was. This will probably go on for weeks. lol

Also having the camera allows you to do stuff like this. Editing vids like this makes me realise just how lucky I am to have such an awesome tolerant wife

Thanks again for your feedback and I’m glad to have inspired you to get a cam. I wait with bated breath for the first cybercarl production!! (No pressure then)

Shut up kev :P
