Fuel consumption
Fuel consumption
Hi all I'm new here and just bought my first v-twin, I went out on it a few days back and before I could blink the petrol light was already on, it seems to rip through fuel.
Are they generally thirsty bikes ? The guy I bought it off said it was a little thirsty but I was shocked
Cheers Gav

Re: Fuel consumption
The tank is only small, claims 16l on the old ones, and will take 12l when the light does on, you should be just past 100miles then......About 43 to the gallon, so not great but not crap either.

Yep they like to drink the stuff :-)
But you get lots of smiles for it when you ride it .
I like to think if £20 of fuel lasts a few hours that's good fun .
But if you give £20 to the mrs how long will that last in the shops . And you won't be smiling for as long .
I know where I put my £20 .you can ride the bike as hard as you want or a slow steady ride . That bike will thank you either way :-)

Re: Fuel consumption
They aren't that bad, just seems it 'cos the tank is small. Obviously if you go everywhere at full throttle it will guzzle the fuel - same as any bike.

Agree mate, as benny has also said a few times it was the tank size the let them down giving the false impression of super poor fuel consumptionRob wrote:They aren't that bad, just seems it 'cos the tank is small. Had they got the 19ltr tank when they first kicked off the bike might not of got such a bad rap as a gas guzzler, depends on how you ride it you can get as little the 60's right up to 130+ on the 16ltr Storm

Re: Fuel consumption
i think that accolade goes to me with 64mls to the tank....just keep trip meter showing instead of the mileage and reset after you fillup..
Re: Fuel consumption
Fill it up with diesel, then you'll find that the fuel level won't go down all week.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Fuel consumption
Depending on what I'm doing I get between 75 miles to and from work but lots of that is second gear 30mph. If I'm having a hoon where its constant national speed limit or motorways I get up to around 90 - 100 miles. Seen over 100 once or twice and the most was the Hastings run where I saw 114 before light came on.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

Re: Fuel consumption
On a long run, motorway stuff at 80-95 mine gives 55mpg.
Pretty damn good I would say. Uses twice as much looning around locally.
