I'm getting there slowly

Post by G-Pro29 »

Well I've always wanted to buy an older bike as a bit of a project and do all the work myself, I've never had the confidence to do it before but funds being tight and after 3 years without a bike I finally had enough cash spare to look for a bike. I really fancied the aprilia rsv but didn't have enough money so I was scrolling thru fleabay and came across a Honda vtr, I'd never considered one before so I looked at a few more and that was it my mind was made up.

So after about 2 weeks I found one with high mileage but had lots of paper work etc so I bought it a 98 with 56k on clock the fairings were tatty etc but the bike was ok overall, anyway since then I've stripped it and done the following

Had all fairing sprayed black ( was silver with tatty stickers on it )
Replaced front screen with an air blade double bubble
Replaced front indicators with flush ones
Replaced rear light with a clear led one - thanks to slipper
Replaced front discs - thanks to Kev l
Replaced front pads
New rear tyre
Serviced it new oil, oil filter, air filter
Cleaned and de-greased the chain and swinging arm as it was in a state
Cleaned it up in general and it's looking good I'm very very happy with it

Few things left to do now, the wheels are currently orange - these are going black in a few weeks
Carbon levers
That's about it I'll post a few pics up when it's all finished :D

Well done Gav, the more you do the more you'll enjoy the bike.

Cheers lads, the wheels need repainting anyway, I did consider leaving them orange but they won't go with the flourecent yellow tank pad and sticker on the front fender.

I did consider having the wheels done flourecent yellow but I sh1t out  so they are going black with flourecent yellow wheel rim tape instead.

I'll post up another few pics when the wheels are done.
