Went to Halfrauds today for oil and filter.

5 litres of 10/40w semi synthetic motorcycle oil is £32!!!

5 litres of 10/40w semi synthetic car oil is £20!!

Having read all the bumf on the back of the containers I'm struggling to see where the extra cost can be justified.

The oil is made to the same standards, has the same oil industry codes, comes out of the same hole in the ground, is in the same container other than the colour. Even the bods in the shop couldn't tell me what the difference was.

I can't believe that a reddy purple colour container is £12 more expensive to manufacture than a green one!

Or is it just a case of them ripping us off.

m and p are doing siloklene super and a k+n oil filter for £26.99 with free delivery halfrauds are called that for a reason.

I know what you mean Jester Halfrauds is a bloody rip off and your lucky to get 5L. Motorcycle oil normally comes in 4l containers. I remember when I could buy a gallon of oil for about £8.

Petrol, oil, it's all part of the same rip off industry. Plus halfrauds add their own extra bit of rip off to add to the kick in the balls.

As far as the difference goes between car and motorcycle oil, I don't know. Maybe motorcycle oil is designed to run at higher temps or there are added properties to help with the wet clutch.

Bike oils have specific friction modifiers for wet clutches.

It's not quite oil from a hole in the ground there's loads of refining that goes on and mixing molecules, way above what i know but there's some good reading to found on oils on the internet.

A month or so ago Halfords had an oil sale I stocked up on 10/30 Castrol gps for 17 each, look out for the next one it was advertised on tv

Yes it's car oil but I don't care as the bike runs good on it with no clutch slip

i wouldnt go getting a halfrauds oil filter mate. it doesnt filter no where near as much carbon out of the oil. if you tested two bikes with an oem filter and one with an aftermarket filter, the oem filter will keep the oil alot cleaner for alot longer. always worth paying that little extra.

also on my CBR i had a aftermarket filter on there and the sill had mananged to disintigrate and piss out oil...which was good

That. The own-brand oil is all made by Comma as far as I know, and the bike oil has stuff in there for the wet clutch.

Get a trade card if you can, makes the prices a little more bearable. Don't expect any staff there to have a clue about bikes unless they ride one themselves.
And time-to-time there are offers on the oil, though more often than not it doesn't include motorcycle oils, or they ramp the price up for a few weeks then drop it again saying 'look how much you save!'. Asshats!
