TL1000 v VTR1000
TL1000 v VTR1000
How do they stack up? I've had a go of a TL and found the front end lifts up too much for my liking. People say the TL has more power but if it did I didn't notice. I believe th TL has a larger tank.

Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
bloody good bikes if you can get used to launching them right.
some say theyre deadly but imo thats after riding a il4 600!
the full power model is 135hp allegedly, as much as a good sp2
but good luck finding a tidy one.
theres one for sale on a41 welsh road near eastham tap pub....looks mint - tl1000r in blue/ white

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
Oh I'm not after a TL, quite comfortable with my storm thanks. Just wondering which is best, The TL didn't feel as good at handling as the storm but maybe that was because I'm more used to the storm.
Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
On standard spec they will equal each other till about 115 after that the TL will pull away. But who needs any faster at that speed your licence has already gone

Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
The TL has more power, stiffer chassis, better forks and if it wasn't for the dodgy rotary damper at the back it would trounce the storm for sporty aspirations.
But the storm fuels better with its carbs, has more friendly handling and with a bit of work on the shock and forks can easily match a well ridden TL (with its rear shock fixed) on biker roads

Agreed I kept up with a TLR on the way to Brighton last year. I eased off at around 110 and the TL kept pulling. To be honest it made me more impressed with the Storm than it did with the TL I was beside because I had my nephew on the back of the Storm. Level with the extra weight all the way to 110.darkember wrote:On standard spec they will equal each other till about 115 after that the TL will pull away. And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

I Looked at purchasing one before I found my storm, test rode a few and as someone has said you have to learn to launch them.
once you have sorted that rotary rear damper, they're ment to be a good fun bit of kit. I found they had a bit more ground clearance. and that the forks were a tad better than the strom.
but once, I started doing some digging about for information on the net about them and found out mainly tht TLs has a problem with frames cracking.
have a look at the link

Suzuki by all accounts denied it was happening at one point.

Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
I do like the look of the sv1000
Saw a couple at Squires on Wednesday, one had the proper Suzuki blue and white paint scheme
Made it look the dogs baldrocks

I used to have the SV650s and I think it is a stunning bike to look at. Nice bike to ride too. I never managed to find a nice sv1000 when I looked for my new bike. Ended up with the vtr and I am glad I did

Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
The sv1000 has engine problems (the knock) and Suzuki don't want to know about it
Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
I've not ridden many Suzuki's, but the ones I have, IMHO, have been crap. Build quality was rotten on them to. Went out on Sat, one of the fella's was on a very late GSXR1000, and even he slagged off the build quality, and said that after he rode a late blade, he didn't want to get back on his Gixer.
Don't think I'd be buying a Suzuki in any hurry.

I looked at SV1000's before getting the storm this time round, good luck finding one without crank problems already or looming unless you're going for a recent model year. Build quality did not seem good either. I wanted to like them but couldn't get past these issues. At least with a VTR if you sort the CCTs you're usually ok.

My last vtr was on oe cct's, traded it at 44,000, even then no probs. RR was ok as well. No one makes them like Honda.firestorm996 wrote:I looked at SV1000's before getting the storm this time round, good luck finding one without crank problems already or looming unless you're going for a recent model year. Re: TL1000 v VTR1000
Back in 2000 when i had my first firestorm i did a side by side top speed run with a mate on his tl1000s, we were still side by side at 160mph (on the clock), there was nothing in it, both bikes had end cans on, mine had a d/j kit and k&n filter and 1 tooth bigger rear sprocket, he weighed about 2 stone less than me. As for handling he couldn't even get close, but i was the better rider
