Given a VTR1000 50th Anniversary
Evening chaps and chapesses,
I have recently been given a VTR1000 50th anniversary bike. Took t for 250 miles yesterday and it is lovely, just not a BMW.
Anyway, that aside, it has a misfire at 4000-5000 revs on a constant throttle.
Assume that it is an ECU issue due to the cans, is there a cheap chip fix? Or is it PC3 route?
Would love some help, its a nice bike.

It takes me 3 hours to do light bulbs so cant be off much help sorry

PC3 ain't a lot of good on a carbed bike.
Lucky it isnt a BMW either, you won't have the issues seeing as its a Honda.

Anniversary storms came with Harris rearsets, pro-flex rear shock and Remus cans. Misfire could be carb issues, balancing etc. No PC3 as it's carbs not injection.

Yeah you want to watch them 50th anniversary bikes. Nothing but trouble and a huge money pit. You can give it to me if you like. Save you a lot of time and money. You'd be better off sticking to the BMWphilrusted wrote:Evening chaps and chapesses,

Another anniversary at this rate they will all be on this forum.
Welcome to the forum, you got a nice bike given to you there. Misfire could be carbs or an ignition problem. Either way it's not much to worry about and I'm sure it can be sorted easily enough. Start with new plugs and filter and give the carbs a clean and balance.

Thanks for all the replies.
I thought it would be fuel injection - clearly not. At least that saves me the money on a PC3.
Colour is of course Red, looks pretty tidy for 35000 miler. Just had to have new rear suspension bearings for MOT - they were shot to bits.
I will have a look at the plugs / filter and get the carbs balanced somewhere.
No idea how to get photos up - will try to sort something out if i get a chance. month old baby is stopping me spending too much time on here.
As for BMW comparisons - I am missing electric screen, 200+ mile tank range, heated grips and luggage - not to mention comfort. Mind you, there is more to life than a comfy pair of slippers and a pipe.
It also seems to be rather slow, but stable, on turn in. Rear is lifted with 2 spacers, approx 4/5mm total.
Baby crying, best get on.

welcome to the forum phil, maybe some dyno time would sort out your issues fella, also check the plugs and air filter, when was it last serviced?

Not a bad gift, you have some nice friends
Give it a good service and then work on any remaining symptoms for your misfire.
. I am assuming it will rev right through to the red line, and just misfires at 4000 revs. Put your location in your user profile and perhaps there is someone local who can have a listen

Welcome to the world of Storms Phil, as said maybe there is someone local who can help with the misfire issue. There are a couple of guys up in Norfolk I belive.
Give it some time & get used to it, naturally it will feel completely different to your old BM.
You say it was given to you, do you know if was standing for any length of time ? As said by Carl the carbs may need cleaning.
Can I be first in line if you want to change the rearsets for standard ones ?

I am very tempted to swap the rearsets for the standard pegs - my 40 year old knees have had too much abuse in the past.
I am doing a trackday at Snetterton on 22nd October, will see how it goes on track and see if I am used to it by then.
Looking forward to getting on track, I think the slow steering will be perfect for Snetterton, not so good for Cadwell, but that can wait till next year I think.

Don't swap them for standard ones, simply move them the the furthest position forward and down, will be almost the same as standard ones but a whole lot more stylish!!!
