Ram Air on Storms

Post by Image »

Could ram air be rigged up to a storm and would it benefit it?

Don't know much about this but I would have thought so. The air going through the carbs draws in fuel - so more air = more fuel = bigger bang :D

Basically a cheap turbo/supercharger without the fancy controls.

I would have thought you would have to be going pretty fast to feel any benefits though.

I'm wondering if it would be an interesting project. Could the ram air pipes simply be attached to the stacks? The carbs would certainly have to be retuned. It'd certainly attract some interest, imagine a storm with big mutha-fukka ram air pipes

Are those KAM boxes ram air Wicky? How effective are they?
I was contemplating making my own by running them to the stacks.

Can Ramair be fitted to a storm, YES. The hardest part is getting/making a tank and then have fun with the jetting. :biggrin

If you want to see the above Mori race airbox http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 41#p148377

I was thinking of rigging up something like this from a CBR600

That's interesting on the Mori link. I thought that the ram-air pipes would have to connect direct to the stacks but according to the Mori pics they only have to enter the collection box.

Yep so basically the whole top half of the bike right up to the base of the fuel tank is the airbox. And the Ramair tubes feed directly into this. The carbs are pretty much set up for an open airbox so you would probably end up having to run with 200 main jets.
Why do you want Ramair. As it is no good for the street really as it only works at high speeds so for track use mainly.

Plus to accommodate the system you lose valuable tank capacity - Yeti stripped it out for the street so this pic shows how the tank is modified.
