My bike is rattling

Post by Ckennedy »

Noticed it since around about the time I changed the CCT's. It is only really within the first few minuets of starting her up. Once she has been running for 5mins or so it seems to disapear. Almost sounds like a dry clutch like on the ducati's. It is starting to worry me now as I can not pin point it. Does anyone have any ideas?

What tension did you last have it at? did you secure and loctite the locknut when you made the last adjustment? Have you checked if it's come loose?

Re: Manual CCT adjustment
It was only finger tight and then out 3/4 of a turn. And finger tight was not really very tight. Engine started fine no problems at all. Bike is finding it had to gain revs at all. Sometimes it will rev up as I turn the throttle and other times it will not. Ticks over OK but sometimes it dies a coup...

Re: Manual CCT adjustment
HELP!!!!!!! I have done the tensioners, followed the guide on here and now I have no low end power at all. There was less than 7mm play in the chain. Could I have got the stacks the wrong way round or has it jumped a tooth or two? Need the bike for tomorrow :s any tips?

Yeah would be handy if that guard did come off haha.
When I get the tension right I shall lock tight them. Now just not sure if got then set right. 1/4 turn out from finger tight.

Manual CCT adjustment
Had a slight rattle coming from the rear cylinder yesterday so today I decided to tighten the CCT. It did up about 1 1/4 turns (ish) undid it about 1/4 of a turn. Ran the engine and all seemed fine, no rattles, squeals or anything. Turned the engine off and have not touched it since. But it has just...

Set both the tensioners to 7mm play as suggested, lock tight both the nuts on the tensioners. They have not moved as I marked them when I last adjusted them and again applied lock tight. Left to set over night. Sounds like it is coming for around the oil filler cap area but as I said I am not sure. The rattle does increase as the throttle is turned until the point when the noise from the cans drowns it out about 3k. As I say after a few mins it dissapears.

From your description here it sounds excessive - the quietening down when warmed up is to be expected.

But as it sounds okay when warmed up I'd leave alone or have another experienced storm owner with manuals fitted to have a listen. At most it might just need tightening up a fraction but you do that when warm - and if you say the noise is gone then there's not much to go on.

Did you check valve clearances when the covers were off?
Sounds like it is coming for around the oil filler cap area
Have you any airleaks in your exhaust headers & linkpipe connections?

No the valve clearences were done not long before I got the bike so did not bother checking them. There are no air leaks anywhere or air getting it. Everything is tight. With it dissappearing when warm I did not think it would be serious. The bike still runs fine. Loads of power, smooth ect. Just started to worry me a bit. Oh and oil was change about 2months ago and topped up the other week.

Okay - Try and meet up with someone (not a Ducati owner  ) in your neck of the woods to double check in person that everything is as it should be.
