Fitting a Scottoiler?????

Post by Image »

Just been given a Scottoiler and it apparently needs a carb screw. 4 questions :confused

1/ Where on a storms carb does the carb screw fit to?

2/ Why does it fit to the carb?

3/ Where's the best place to fit the Scottoiler body?

4/ Anyone got a Scottoiler carb screw they wanna flog?

the carb screw is the vac take off that you use to ballance the carbs

either use the new takeoff point you fitted to the front one, or if you didnt do that get a T piece from your local aquatics shop and tap into the rear line that opens your fuel tap.

it uses the vac so that it stops leaking oil when the bike stops

get the carb screw from carb tune

1/ You have been given duff info.

2/ It doesn't it splices on to the vac pipe from the fuel tap. It needs a vacuum to work, just like your fuel tap.

3/ Anywhere it will fit, some have them fitted & will be along shortly to advise.

4/ You don't need one. The vac pipe runs from the back of the fuel tap down to the front left hand side of the rear cylinder block. If you have already fitted a tube to do carb synchronising use this, if not get a plastic T-piece (aquarium type thing) cut the pipe put the T in connect scottoiler pipe. You now have a vacuum to run the oiler.

5/ There is no 5

mine is mounted on the left under the rear seat cowl. you need reasonable access to it to adjust / fill it. brilliant bit of kit

Mines mounted on the RHS under the seat, above the R/R.

Vacuum point is on the front carb (RH side of bike), I can take a photo if you want.

You could use the Vac pipe for the fuel tank but this way I can just pull the Scottoiler pipe off and plug in the Carbtune to sync the carbs.

Not being funny Rob but you can just pull it off any way to sync the carbs.

Your assuming he has carb sync tubes fitted any way, if he hasn't you have now thrown a spanner in the works, two votes for rear cylinder vac pipe, one for the front.

You have to remember he was confused in his first post.

The screw is just above the carb on the rear cylinder on the left hand side of the bike as you sit on it, rather than a new screw trace the pipe back from the head and put a scotoiler t-piece in so that you can take the vac pipe from it, they are about £3. you need the vac to feed oil on to the chain and so that it is not pissing oil out when you are stopped. The body can be fitted anywhere but is usually under the rear seat fairing, you could also fit a res at the back of the number plate. Best thing to do is go on the scotoiler website, everything you need is available very cheap and you can also load the fitting instructions.

No, I was actually suggesting he fits it to the front if it is blanked. More work yes, but easy to sync in the future. Just another option

I didn't explain very well

A small connector that has three open ends and is in the shape of a letter T, You cut the rubber pipe and attach each end over the connector T, the vac pipe then comes off the bottom leg of the T

Well apparently it's your choice, however fitting to the left is probably easier as that's the side the chain is on. Fitting on the right means running a longer pipe & you have to route it across to the left anyway.

So do you have a pipe for carb balancing on the front cylinder already fitted? If not you will have to buy a fitting, take out the blanking plug & screw one in.

If how ever you already have the pipework in place for the carb balancing then you will already have the necessary T-piece in place on the left hand vac pipe. You will just need to attach the scottoiler & connect the pipe.

If not just get the T-piece & go from there.

Image - go to the workshop knowledgebase and view the 'How to balance your carbs' thread as that has some of the basic vacuum plumbing explained and shows a pic of the front cylinder extra take off point and the part needed and links to places where to buy it.

Also as suggested earlier the scotoiler site has a downloadable PDF installation guide for the Firestorm if you have a search.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
