opinions please

Post by agentpineapple »

i'm hoping to finish my second bike within the next month, and after painting the frame/swingarm/rear subframe/rads satin black, i'm seriously thinking of doing the streetfighter look.....(don't start rob  )
i've been looking at a few different types of headlight arrangment, and i do like the simple single round headlight, but heres a couple of cheapy chinese ones that i like, the plus points being, built in indi's and fly screen, not sure about the colour match tho.
all i'd have to do is fit some handle bar mirrors....
on the downside i'd have to gets some brackets made up, for it to fit and i doubt the quality is that good. i also like the triumph twin headlight and fly screen circa mid 2000's...

If I was to "fighter" the Storm, I would use a round headlight BUT only if I replaced the side rads with a front one, so it could be naked. If I wasn't going to do that, I'd cut the side panels down and use this nacelle typr unit (similar to the Dutch pic on here this morning)
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Is this the 2nd storm that you bought for the engine and now has the shagged old one from your main bike? If so it mainly depends what you intend to with it - if you're selling it on to recoup the investment, I would keep the cosmetic tat to a minimum and on a budget get it back to close OEM/factory condition with a priority of getting it first in good mechanical 'normal' nick followed by cosmetic mods second. If you intend to keep it as a 2nd bike for yourself/winter hack then go for whatever floats your boat in the bling dept that will make chrisc green with envy

Keep it standard.

Will look shite if your not going down the flat bar route as well.

IMO & you did ask for it remember, S/F bikes always look half finished & there is the 'Taint' of crashed bike about them.

Agree with Wicky in that if it's for resale make it standard, if you're going to keep it...well you are quite used to riding around on a half finished bike already so nothing new there then...

+1

The only un-faired ones I like are when the rads are moved from the side. Otherwise it Just looks silly really. If one is going to go down the streetfighter route then it needs to be done properly like Scubadogs. Or trim the fairings like Motorstorms. Now that is a nice look and the rads can stay where they are.

Anyway you need fairings otherwise you will create too much drag.

I can't find the original pic of the Superhawk where the owner modded/trimmed his fairing similar to this into a half-fairing as seen on VFR - Can't remember if he also changed it to have a single rad up front

How about a dustbin fairing to give it a period look?

You could make one from a plastic dustbin- cheap enough to play around with until you get a shape you like.

Why not just pick up a fairing and seat unit you like the look of from a breaker's, then find a way to make it fit?
I do like the little Honda 125 pointy racing seat units, and a subframe isn't hard to make up.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

This is Marty we're talking about here Tony...so I've adjusted it for you.

Now we just need Wicky to photoshop a Storm/wheelie bin hybrid...

Marty's way ahead on that cos if you look at the pic up top he's already trying for size a double-layer composite plastic garden chair for fitment...

out the two you posted i would go for the second one (not the blue one) but i like the look off the firestorm i dont think it makes a good fighter unless you spend alot of cash on it.

i haven't decided what to do yet, if i keep it standard i will need to get a couple of side fairings and possibly get them resprayed and buy another headlight. personally i don't like the twin rad set up being on show, but in satin black it doesn't look to bad, i will be selling the bike at some point this year and spending the money on my spondon framed bike. so i don't want to throw loads of money at it, also the engine is burning a little oil, but its being returned to standard carb setup/stacks and air filter, although this won't stop it burning a little oil, it should help the bike run better, it will even have a road legal aftermarket exhaust, so fingers crossed it won't upset the fueling....
any other sensible idea's are welcomed...

I'm sure we can just patch in the scratches/scrapes on your fairing. Get a rattle can in that blue and we/I can blend that in good enough for resale.
