Easy EFI?
Easy EFI?
could you get two of these kits and just use the one ecu to control both throttle bodies?
would that work on a storm?

Re: Easy EFI?
I expect that depends on the software and what is inside the ECU.
You could always have the Honda one changed or de-restricted.

I'm not sure I would trust this one.

As for fuel injection
I would like a way of accessing the map on standard ones.

Re: Easy EFI?
I've always wondered if you could transplant the fuel injection from a Varado onto the Firestorm and then adjust the fueling with a power commander.
Carl after watching an old top gear of Clarkson in china on the weekend I don't think I would trust them with any of thier power claims. Their copy of saloon car ( I think it was a Toyota) was only making 105 BHP when the Original was about 160

+£800 for a pair
I can't see 48mm in their list of sizes - What is your objective?
Here's a tuned 140bhp Race Mini that uses VTR throttle bodies and EFI

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: Easy EFI?
There's a guy on the Superhawk site seriously considering that with a big discussion on if and how it could be done, I think the conclusion is that if one wants injection then get an SP.I've always wondered if you could transplant the fuel injection from a Varado onto the Firestorm and then adjust the fueling with a power commander.
If it was worth the time and effort then someone would have done it before now.

Re: Easy EFI?
I have seen a few storms that have been Fi, and I'm sure you could just transplant the varaldo engine and injectors and all the gubbins and then tune it to suit, I've looked at it in the past but it's a pricey job.
I wouldn't do it my self I just wondered what was possible, wicky re the size didn't think a bit smaller throttle boddy would matter as it would be more efficient and says they do larger sizes too

it's not quite that simple.Pete.L wrote:I've always wondered if you could transplant the fuel injection from a Varado onto the Firestorm and then adjust the fueling with a power commander.

theres a lot more sensors for the fi and the ignition genny is different etc.
youd have to go deep to get it right.
as has been said, get an sp lol
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Re: Easy EFI?
Actually it is that simple.
Like you said, it's just a few sensors.
It was only an Idle thought and if there was a written off Varado I'd bet it could be done rather cheaply. The carbs are what makes modding the Storm APITA. You could get away with a lot more mods and finer tuning with EFI. OR, can you swap a Varado engine into a Storm frame with some Storm Cams and get the same power out put?

The Aquarist in me was all excited for a bit there.
But there's a bit more to swapping to the Vara EFi lump than cams, you'll need to swap over the gearbox cluster (Vara's is only 5 speed) and I'm not sure the heads are the same either.
But as far as I can tell it wouldn't be difficult to build an EFi engine out of a Storm engine and Vara cases/sensors. You'd need the Vara loom and ECU's as well, unless you were planning on hacking into them or alternatively fitting a race ECU, there are a few options.
The airbox would probably be different, too.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Easy EFI?
A set of FCRs would likely be cheaper in the long run, be easier to set-up and more than likely give as good (or better) power and throttle response..... I must confess I fail to see what all the fuss is about FI. The latest incarnations of it are likely better than carbs (for response) but there was a long list of FI bikes that ran way worse than a well-tuned carbed bike IMO.......Pete.L wrote:The carbs are what makes modding the Storm APITA.

Re: Easy EFI?
The older Varaderos were 5-speed, the newer ones are 6 (IIRC they got the additional gear at the same time they got FI)........

So it looks like they are having the same discussion over there and it's all pie in the sky too.

Re: Easy EFI?
How about the fuel efficiency?
I would assume a benefits for this mod are:
- smaller fuel consumption
- No need for re-jetting if making any other changes to the motor/exhaust/fuel and air-intake (could you make a forced air intake system like in SP1/2?)
- Easier to setup (powercommander)
- bling and awesomeness points
So the easiest option is to get Varadero engine and electronics?
My personal point of view is, that if you want to do the conversion, just do it. There is always non-believers and heretics who will try to put you down. If you think it is worth of doing, it probably is.
(just document it properly for the followers)
The follow-up question is, how about turbo?

Yes because the last thing a 100+ bhp V-Twin sports bike needs is a turbo
