London2Brighton MTB 75 miles Off road - AGAIN!
London2Brighton MTB 75 miles Off road - AGAIN!
I've signed up to the London to Brighton off road mountain bike charity run in September.
Back in 2003 I was diagnosed with having a big heart. No seriously, I was. It’s called Dilated Cardio Myopathy. I was in hospital for three weeks and was told I would be on meds for the rest of my life. I lost a lot of weight in hospital but I put a lot of it back on. For six years, I battled with the heart condition and during an angiogram, the consultant told me I could stop taking warfarin (a blood thinning tablet) which was great news as I thought I’d be on it for life. For the last 5 years I have been in constant battle with my weight. I was scared to do any strenuous exercise as I thought I might explode or something.
All though I am still under special care, I was given the all clear exercise a few years back. Since then my weight has been gradually reducing year on year but it keeps going up towards the end of the year. I want this to change.
So this year I thought I would do something different. By entering the 75 mile London to Brighton off-road mountain bike ride, I hope to not only reach my weight loss goals, but through sponsorship, give back something to the British Heart Foundation who were amazing in their support. Their research helped me to get the right meds. Their support material made things clear to me reducing some of the worry and their care helped me back on the road to recovery.

Good effort Geo, it's a challenge enough on the road - especially the route up the Downs, be interesting to see the route they take. There is a night time London-Brighton road cycle event as well I found out last week.
When I lived down there you couldn't leave the house for the best part of the day as 60,000 plus cyclist went by

Here is the route. You'll need silverlight installed to see it

Al, thanks dude I might just get into the leathers, but wont be able to wear any layers so it'll probably be in textiles anyways at this rate. Snow forecast for Sunday morning. Should make for an interesting ride home. lol
Nice bike. I'm doing it on a modified Hardrock 2012 Disc

Good luck Geo. You best get some training in before then
I used to cycle a lot and often did 100mile on the road. It was a killer just to do 50 off road
Put me down for £20 when you do it I would like to join you but every time I get on a push bike an old knee injury comes back and stops me walking for a week Be with you in spirit though

When I was 16 I used to do 50-60 miles a day at weekends easy. lol
Off road is a bitch though, especially up hill, in the wet

Good on you Geo, just start getting the mileage in now so you'll be in shape to enjoy it. Decent contact points - shorts, shoes & gloves will make a big difference. I'd join you if it wasn't all the way down in that there SE
