hagon rebuild price

Post by callam_nffc »

spoke to hagon and a rebuild is 99.50

plus I will need a new spring and piston rod to get rid of the 30mm drop, a spring was another 50 quid but the bloke was unsure whether the piston rod was charged extra

he advised me to send it off with a covering letter stating what I wanted changing etc

my dilemma now is whether I put up the cash and have it rebuilt and length changed at 150+ quid, or save that money towards a better unit from somebody else?

True, but I've run one for 10 years with one rebuild with no problems :)
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

I must admit, I would like one with a remote adjuster

just remember that if you buy a second hand quality rear shock, you will most likely still have to get it refurbed, even so if the right shock comes along at the right price its worth it....
i had my hagon rebuilt under warrenty and posted back to me with a new spanner, i couldn't fault hagon at all.

Might as well stick with your hagon and just by the optional remote adjuster and have them fit it when they do the rebuild / modification

hagon have followed up with an email and said that I can have a full rebuild to my spec for 150 and add on a remote adjuster for 125

so 275 for a shock built to my spec with remote adjuster seems a pretty good deal

I think that is the set up Tony has on his Storm. He will be able to give you a steer on how good/bad that shock performs.
By the way where's my chocolate medallion!!

i would suggest buying a shock sock, hagon shocks don't hold up well to road salt and can look shabby reasonably quickly, but whack a shock sock on it and problem solved....

If you have a decent shock with compression adjustment the you don't need a hydraulic preload, the preload when set correctly can be left alone, i'm assuming you want it for two up riding, if you have compression adjustment then that's what you need to firm up when two up and leave the other adjustments alone. Quality shock needed. they are out there, last year I picked up a Penske to fit on my XJ race bike, it was for an R6 so I sent it off and got it resprung, valved and rebuilt, the whole lot came in at £350, not bad for an as new £700 shock.

Hagon shocks have a rebound adjuster, they say it adjusts compression aswell but that's not totally true as it's not a compression adjuster and rebound will have a small effect on compression anyway. the Hagon adjuster is very sensitive, a small amount of turn will have an effect but it's not a very fine adjustment ( a bit crude) so set it carefully paying attention that the rabound isn't too slow.
