Top end question..

Post by gl_s_r »

Can anybody point me to a place or maybe tell me what angle the valves are relevant to the bores please and if they are the same for inlet and exhaust... or the included valve angle if known?

What I mean by the beginning bit is if I drew a line straight through the bore and then through the valves what would the intersecting angle be?

Many Thanks
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

Both inlets and exhaust valves lean inwards at an angle towards the centre slightly, I don't know what the angle is but the valve faces are not flush with the piston crown as it comes up. Then you have the angle on the outside edge of the valves where the valve sits in the seat. There's a whole section in the Honda service manual on this with the service limits, page 8=13.

But getting back to the angle the face of the valves sits at. I think these can be changed if one wanted, but that would require changing the angle of the guides, so basically I think that would come under the porting territory. You getting into some complicated stuff with that one and it's not quite as simple as just changing the angles as you need to consider everything else.

I'm not going to be changing anything but wanted to double check something more than anything.. and that is the angle that the valves go into the bore.

Not interested in the angle on the valves themselves etc

it's a bit of a shame as a Google search tells you it's 24 degrees for the SP1... but can't find it for the storm for love nor money..

Interesting question!
No idea of the answer, though.
Probably the easiest way is to stick a rod down one inlet and one exhaust and simply use a protractor- you'll be within a degree or two.

The carbs are at a slightly increased angle, I think, as the inlet tracts angle slightly more than the valves themselves.
Not sure if you could actually move the carbs closer to each other, but if you did you'd need to consider throttle bodies instead, and a new airbox.

Maybe the Sp1 or 2 box might be a place to start?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
