swapping my hagon back to standard

Post by callam_nffc »

so Ive got my standard rear to replace the hagon until its rebuilt

is it as simple as jacking it up, unbolting one and bolting the other in its place?
I'm hoping its straight forward as the Mrs wants to go away on the bike this weekend

any tips/advice appreciated

Lift the rear end securely up, from garage rafters or using a step ladder. It is a good opportunity to service the rear linkage bearings.

yeah my mate has a frame/winch etc in his garage

is it just a case of just greasing the linkage up?

Working out how to support the bike s a pain if you don't have an abba stand. I used to take the cans off and put axle stands under the footrest mounting plates where the link pipes bolt on, and lower it off the paddock stand onto them.

Best way to get the shock out is to drop it out the bottom when you have removed the linkage, then put the new one in the same way. The only problem I found was getting the bottom shock bolt out, as the rear downpipe gets in the way when you try and extract the bolt. Hopefully when your Hagon was fitted the bolt was put in from the right hand side with the nut on the left, then it goes in and out easyly.

Like wicky said, it's a good time to grease the linkage and fit a 3mm spacer under the top mount.

I'm going to use a friends winch/frame in his garage to do it

is their a guide in the workshop manual regarding fitting the shock and servicing the linkage?

In the PDF Honda Service manual

SHOCK ABSORBER REMOVAL Pg 244

SUSPENSION LINKAGE REMOVAL pg 247

and in the Haynes: Frame Suspension & Final Drive - 6-19 Rear Shock Absorber - removal

& read and study the earlier link above for hints & tips on servicing the linkages.

Definitely worth doing otherwise it will be like wearing expensive spangly running shoes while having arthritic knees...
