Lowering the bike

Post by malj »

Anyone no of a lowering kit or method of lowering a firestorm, bottom line is have had a opp on my hip and for the next 6 to 9 months as the saying goes cannot get my leg over, ( the bike that is) managed to get on the bike today with the help of the garage wall but ended today up on my butt on the garage floor when trying to get off, so other than wearing platform boots or carrying a milk crate to stand on I need to lower the bike by around 1" (25mm) any ideas?

Callam recently found out there was a problem with his suspension in that in was 30mm lower than expected. I'll have a dig around and find the thread for you and link to it

a lot lol. it feels tiny.
i also fitted a yacugar progressive rear spring and progs up front, dropped the forks by 15mm.
absolutely transformed the handling.
turned it from being top heavy to low cog and very comfy for a short butt like me!
i can do proper burnouts on it now lol!
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

Have you considered removing some of the foam from your seat?

Probably lose an inch of height

Let the tyres down.
It also has the beneficial effect of improving fuel economy, as you won't use any at all until you pump them up again.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I have a hagon shock which is 30mm lower than standard, pain in the butt because im 6 foot and it was too low for me

I'm in two minds about whether to sell it and buy something else or have it rebuilt for my height and weight

Hagon will do a shorter shock to order and if you have the original still on it's probably due for a change/rebuild anyway. Also, if you get the seat reprofiled, taking some foam from the edges makes a lot of difference as your legs aren't held so wide so you can get your foot down more easily. Ditto using some shinier vinyl for the cover - you can slip down the side more easily when putting your foot down etc.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Hi
Did you manage to get your bike lowered? When I bought my VTR it had already been lowered because its owner was of the fairer sex.
I have bought a secondhand bracket to put height to standard, so now have one which will lower a VTR. I also could do with swopping my sidestand as mine has been shortened for the lower height.
