Race/ Trackday Fairings

Post by EggShellBlond »

Just being nosey , but...........................................

there are are a couple of bikes in allery with race Fairings, the white one & the white/yellow

one of them appears to have mirrir fixings and a blanking plate where the "side" light normally goes , and the other one has what appears to be a differant style screen ( ie fits flush instead of having the blanking bit ) if that makes sense

Neither have the holes for indicators , so I'm assuming they are both Race Fairings , rather than OE ones that have been adapted ?

Does anyone know if you have to specify which type you want, if say you wanted a trackday fairing

I'm thinking it would be a pain to get a new screen , as a road screen wouldn't fit , or would leave a nasty hole

Hi mate, mine is the yellow and white one http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/gallery/744.jpg , as for the bodywork i bought it all on ebay, seat unit tank and fairing and i think it was all standard bodywork that someone had modified then plated and plastic wellded all the holes up somehow, its was clear when i bought it that the holes were filled in, but with a bit if rubbing down and some cans of paint it looks ok. This is why it has a standard screen fitment i think (with the cutout). So i think if you were to buy puca track bodywork it would leave you with a hole under the screen. and it would cost more than the £110 i paid for the lot. hope this helps and sorry i am r going on a bit but the red wine has benn flowing and i'm a bit pissed  , cheers dodds.

Cheers , mate

It looks great , did you paint it all yourself ?

So this is temporary bodywork for trackdays ? Does it take long to swap over ?

Apologies for not looking up who owned the bikes I was referring to , posted in a hurry.

Robin owns the Race Bike.

Cheers

Stu

Hi mate, yes it is bodywork that i switch around for trackdays and i did paint it myself. It takes the morning to go from this http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/gallery/482.jpg to this http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/gallery/752.jpg and finally to this http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/gallery/753.jpg , i started a 10 this morning and finished at about two and i swapped the wheels (race discs and tyres allready fitted), pads, tank, fairing and seat unit . i got the whole lot on ebay inc wheels and discs for under £350 and then painted the panels , there not great but look ok if your more then five feet away  . I'm driving up to cadwell on sunday for a trackday on monday, ( Plymouth to cadwell 5 1/2 hours  ) hopefully it will still be in one piece monday night, cheers dodds.

Four hours???
You need to get practicing mate!

I've done mine (albeit without swapping the tank) in 25mins

Last few track days I've got my Dad to meet me there with the bodywork and wheels having ridden up myself.
I then swap over the wheels (3.5mins front, 3 mins rear)
Seat unit (6mins)
And fairing (7mins)
before the first session :)

Ben

PS it takes quite a bit longer to put the standard stuff back on afterwards though!!

Ben, that 4 hours also included oil change, brake and clutch fluid change, pick up kids from school and lots of coffee !!!!!!! . While you are there mate a quick question, i have fitted C L SBK pads and having done about 50 miles to bed them in on my race discs i'm not that impressed, i know you have said there are great on a track so do they need more bedding in or will they come good when hotter, cheers dodds.

4 hours to do all that? I am impressed now

WRT the brake pads, I'd say that 100 would be about right to bed them in.
And yes they really are pretty rubbish when cold. Not much better when just warm (normal road use) but blinding when you get then hot.
Find a nice clear bit of road and do a couple of hard stops from 80ish to get some heat in them. Then you'll see how good they are.

Ben

PS however all my experiences with them have been on stock disks but hopefully they should be OK on your pro-lites too
