Ideas on how to stop sliding forwards?

Post by Ckennedy »

I am starting to get a little annoyed when riding as I can not stop myself sliding forwards and crushing my crown jewels on the fuel tank. I grip on with my knees but still find myself sliding forwards. I have used tank grips before on my last bike but found they started to hurt my knees. Is there any other options to stop this from happening? ie a smooth but sticky/micro ridged pad that can be put on the tank? I thought about when getting my seat re done to ask for a none slip material to be used at the cover but I want to be able to move from side to side easily but not forwards.

You thoughts on this are as always greatly appreciated.

Alter your position on the bike, not just side to side but fore and aft, it's a physical thing this riding, brace yourself, use your arm strength.

Or you could make up a pad to fit on the back on the tank

have your seat reshaped or get some stomp grips or change your body posture .

When I send the seat away I was going to get it reshaped with a hump at the front to try to stop me sliding forwards but I was hoping for some form of none slip pad for my knees so my balls are not getting squashed all the time.

Install a seatbelt

I have noticed this too, just from general relaxed riding through towns etc i find myself dry humping the tank, I think the standard seat is a bit slippy as are my leather trousers. Not a problem when you're crawling all over the bike in the twisties.

I built a Café racer last winter, I used a piece of adhesive foam for my seat which I found to be very grippy, this would stop you relying on gripping your tank 100% of the time, you could cut it to size and put it on your seat. Although getting it off might be tricky :confused

go into a motox shop and bring your seat and try as many gripper seat covers as they have .theres bound to be one that fits a storm seat. iv used them in enduro and supermoto and they are the ticket.
the older i get,the faster i was

I have exactly the same problem and constantly having to move back on the seat every few minutes. I've come to the conclusion that it would probably be money better spent if I just got my seat reshaped and while at it I will get it raised a little as being 6'4" my legs are up around my ears

Pineapple does have a good point about using Alistair at Elsemade who appears to do very good work at a sensible price http://www.elsemade.com/page9.html especially when you compare it to buying stomp grips and sticky seat covers etc which all start to add up.

Wow, lots of humor(ahem) on this forum.

Ok so you need tank grips and a triboseat brand seat cover. OR...... Use shelf liner and staple it under the seat like the seat cover. http://triboseat.com/

The triboseat is way tougher than shelf liner (which looks similar) but I just replace my rider portion every 6 months or so of many rides per day riding. (YMMV)

If you just keep up the sliding forward, eventually your knackers will become so swollen you will fit the bike.
Hope this helps, CJ.

all you need is a golf ball and a multi purpose tool....(hammer)
hold the golf ball in the area where your testicles interface with the tank and hit it with the hammer, then repeat the process again directly next to the first one.
you'll be left with two indentations for your testicles to sit in snuggly.......job done...
