Alternative seat cowl. Anyone tried them?

Seen these on ebay. Anyone tried them or have an opinion on them? Would they just bolt on easy or need modifying? I thinkthey look pretty neat.

You mean undertray The seat cowl is the hump on top. I don't like it but then I am not a fan of a lot of those double tail lights on the Storm. The wiring can be interesting on some of those aftermarket undertray and light combo's.

Hmm, good point as I like the wiring simple. Unless ofcourse it's just one wire to the twin rear light. It looks an interesting rear for a storm I think.

I had to fit one on Marty's bike very similar and the wiring was like the thinnest noodles (rice noodles) you can get. It was a right faff. Definitely a solder job and not electrical terminals.

I'm not sure about that particular one, but some of those (while look great when fitted) obscure the rear tail lights to a degree, due to the fact the lights are set back like that,

for what its worth, heres my pov, yes carl is correct, the wiring is poor quality, but once fitted they work fine, I will say the intergrated indicators are pointless, people following just can't see them very well, and imho they're an mot failure.
I've disconnected the indicators, also it means you don't have to fit inline resistors to get the correct flash rate.
the stop and tail light is bright enough and works well, but sirch says, other motorists will find it harder to see your rear light because they're recessed.
personally I like the look.
if your importing one from the usa, be prepared for import duty.
finally you will have to cut most of your original undertray away and cable tie the ecu boxes to the rear subframe.
so theres several hurdles to overcome, but nothing comes easy in life...

Hi,
This is my 1st post! I feel a big boy now.(sorry it's so long)
I have fitted one of these rear tail lights onto my Storm last year. It does look good once fitted. Legalities of the indicators? not caused me any probs. I fitted relays for flash rate.
I had mine sprayed to match and had VTR decals fitted and laquered over, which adds to the job costs.

The points to consider have been mentioned.
The wiring is thin, but it works fine, ensure you get a wiring diagram. Lights are well visible. Indicators could be brighter IMO.
You do have to be brave and cut your old under tray.
Major point is, you must support this under tray with more than the two screws underneath, or as I found out the lugs on the seat cowl cannot take the weight and movement, and snap off! I have had to improvise, and I am looking for a used seat cowl fairing.
You will get hit with around £20 import duties.
One other thing was that one of my light units was fitted in 'on the piss' so I had to melt the glue straighten it up and reset it.
It was a faff in the end, but it is done now, and looks good. Would I do it again? I don't know.

I will try to put some pics on, or send you some if it helps your decision making.

i can't say i had any problems with the bottom lugs/mounting pointing points of my seat unit, and the feedback from friends who rode behind me, was that the lights are not that visable during the daytime, plus they're only visable from directly behind. more so an issue with indicators.
having said that, once the thin/poor quality wiring was figured out, it was easy enough to fit, you'll need to purchase a tailtidy/numberplate holder with a numberplate light.
oh and you have to get used to the seat lock being underneath.....
