no enjoyment?

Post by callam_nffc »

Hi chaps

been a while since I've been on the forum like usual, and I've been wondering..

Do you go through phases of not riding much and feeling there is something missing between you and the bike, or is it just me?

just lately I've done so little riding that it's making me feel like the bikes an expensive toy (it's 75 quid a month insurance alone), and the only couple of times I've been out on her I've enjoyed it, but it's not "excited" me like usual

with the weather we've had this past month I would have usually been out on the bike at every given opportunity, but I've just not bothered and I also feel like it's even knocking my confidence a little :(

Get out and ride it for the day or better take it away for the weekend .
Pick a destination say up north and go .
A good ride will either rekindle the enjoyment or be its last trip .

One of the reasons I don't go off riding, despite complaining about the Hornet 24/7, is cause I have to commute on it. Try riding it to and from work for the week? I know the storm isn't an ideal commuter bike but oh well

That or go with lloydie's idea

That's what I was thinking. :eek2

Your probably just getting used to the bike so the same buzz is not there when you open it up as it don't feel as fast. But getting back on after a little break should sort that out.

I think that's the best plan Lloydie

also I've now passed my car driving test so that will make me 125 quid a month better off, allowing more room to spend on some trick bits :)

yeah 75 quid a month because some silly cow wrote my thundercat off and disputed it, so my no claims are on hold plus have a pending claim lol

Try riding with someone to make it fun or maybe try riding at a time when the roads are quieter? If you go out early in the morning you can have a play when less car drivers are around?

Callum

I did go thru a period of 3 years without riding

I missed it but somehow couldn't be bothered and with a lot going on in my life I didn't think I could afford it or the time

Seems like one day I woke up and thought F you I am going to ride

Been enjoying it for the last 3 years

But have to say, there are some days when I cant be bothered, it seems too much trouble

As Alternative said, get out at 5 or 6 in the morning, empty roads, nice weather

The other option is to hang up your leathers for a while

Take the bike off the road

See what happens

Either way, all the best buddy

Last year I did 3 miles on the bike, into town and back, it was just a bad year I was either busy or it was slinging it down come to think of it I didn't do many miles the year before,I wasn't to fussed but I wouldn't sell it( it was suggested once by her indoors-that was a short conversation). I've only just found time to get it sorted for this year. But I found since getting a car+house+wife+dogs I don't have as much time on the bike, still love it when I'm on though :biggrin

+1 time is always the factor. Wife and I work in the same place so easier to drop kids at chld care and car share. But when one of has a meeting I have to take the bike.

I live close to my work so I walk there but if I have to go on a training course I break the storm out

I think everyone goes through similar phases, I couldn't care less about motorbikes last year, I felt like I'd got as much as I could out of the hobby and that I wouldn't get any more enjoyment from it. So I sold my sports bike and had a few months focused on other hobbies. Winter came round and so did my desire to ride motocross, so bought a YZ250 and all the gear, learnt how to slide, jump and get mucky! This was all great fun for a while but, when chatting to fellow MX riders, I never really felt passionate about the subject of our conversation, my heart lay elsewhere.

So my entry back into road bikes came in the shape of seeing some old footage of the Mods & Rockers, then within a breath I found myself thinking... I want to be a rocker! Ok, so I'm never going to be a Rocker without a time machine, but it got me thinking about what motorcycling meant to those guys, it was a lifestyle, an expression and the means to reach 'freedom' on the open road. Before I knew it I'd set a small bit of cash aside for a Café Racer project, so I could experience the raw, uncomplicated essence of motorcycling again. This got my passion for road bikes bubbling under my skin again, I wanted MORE power, MORE G-Forces, and most of all I wanted to ride FURTHER! The feeling was reborn, I was hungry for anything to do with bikes again. So now I have my Storm, I'm going to ride round Wales with a few of the mad lot on this forum in Sept and have lots of other things planned where I can really get the most out of my spare time and my new Storm. I'm in love again :)

Wow, this turned into bit of an essay 8O I was just going to suggest getting out on a push bike, or something different to your bike but loosely related. I think if you've just passed your car test, you'll soon realise just how nice it is to 'cut loose' on a bike and have fun.
