1998, 14k, MOT until Feb. Bit of history. Nice sounding Microns, braided hoses, tensioners changed last year. Looks like summer use only and kept indoors, it's in remarkable nick, much better than the 2001 I saw the other day.

I'd forgotten how good these things are to ride, my journey back from Swindon was very smiley... :D

Pops a bit on the overrun - any suggestions?

Needs a hugger and a grabrail, and maybe a fender extender.

Oh yes, silly me, it already has an extender, I thought they were longer...

14520MBB013 were fitted according to the history? http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/part ... 520MBB003/

Can someone recommend a hugger? Or any to avoid? There seem to be a few out there.

Grab rails seem to be Renntec or, er Renntec...

Standard Honda CCT's or grenades as they are known around these parts. Highly recommend that you get them changed to manuals ASAP.

As for hugger's take your pick, the Pyramid ones look better IMO but you have to use the std chain guard, whereas other makes do away with the std one as its incorporated.

Thanks Macv2 for the message about the CCT, I'll bear it in mind (why is there a 50 post until you can PM rule anyway? Never seen that before) :confused

I'll do some spanner-waving - when the hugger and twin loud horns arrive I'll fit them - but I happily pay blokes to do the mucky stuff.

Thought this might be of interest - this is all the info I have on it (I think I'm the 7th owner, have to wait until the V5 arrives)... soz for formatting.

Date Mileage Info
21/03/98 n/a First registration
05/05/98 n/a Datatag registered
08/05/98 Not recorded First service
26/07/99 Not recorded 4000 mile service
17/04/01 7754 MOT
15/03/02 9456 MOT
15/03/03 Not recorded Service – oil and filter
16/04/03 10747 MOT
18/05/04 11053 MOT
19/01/05 Not recorded New battery
26/05/05 11858 MOT
12/08/09 12475 MOT, Service – oil, filter, new Bridgestone BT014 x2
28/02/12 12625 MOT (Mileage history from 2013 MOT)
01/08/12 13146 “Investigate rattle” – cam chain tensioners replaced
16/02/13 13382 MOT

and that's it. I'm thinking of a service, what sort would you recommend :?:

VTR1000F (Superhawk) Firestorm Service Manual PDF

From the pic it looks like i was taken in front of a showroom - did you buy it from a dealer or privately - did they service it just prior to the sale.

With that low milage and age - it probably is on the original chain & sprocket so would need checking. Tires are over 4 years old - again worth checking as they have a finite lifespan and can degrade over time. So you know where you're at with the bike, replace all fluids brake & clutch. Coolant and antifreeze. Oil and filter. Bake pads. Air filter etc Everything really bar valve adjustments but they could be done when CCTs are replaced with manual tensioners, along with adding a front cylinder vacuum take-off adapter for easy carb balancing (see DIY carb balancing in the workshop knowledgebase).

Krieger, APE and Bazza manual CCT's > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720

PS if your Rectifier / Regulator is still an original unfinned one like this, replace pronto before it cooks and leaves you inconveniently stranded.

Quite normal but if doing it excessively check for airleaks in the exhaust system esp. where the seals are between header & link pipes.

It was a dealer - although the pic is my workplace. Basically swapped my Vmax on the spur of the moment (and anyone that knows me would tell you I don't do that sort of thing). Life's too short.

Thanks for the manual.

Is the rectifier mounted on the right side near the battery between frame and panel? If so it's finned.

This morning it wouldn't start - dud battery! Put it on an Optimate which now it says it's fine and it turns over ok, but I've ordered an Odyssey gel battery just to be sure. I suspect the 8 year old battery is past it's best especially if it hasn't been used much.

Incidentally the first owner was a woman - I guess the light weight and low seat height help...
