Hi to all... 1 st v twin

Post by repsolVTR »

So just got my 1st ltr twin and what can I say , love it to bits
had a many 4 pots but fancied a change , wish I had done this sooner .
Got a Y reg for 1650 quid and it looks mint in the Repsol colours.
Only 2 issue and that is the pony front brake , I think it may be common issue with these and the amount it drinks, wow it's thirsty if you give it a bit.
Any advice with the front brake or other things to look out for would be appreciated.

Greetings

The easiest thing for the front brake is to rebuild it, new seals, clean pistons and fresh fluid etc. Check disks . Basically get it like new, then if that doesn't work there are other systems that you bolt on or complete more modern front ends that transplant on.

Check that you haven't got Honda;s imploding auto CCTs and an unfinned self-cooking R/R - head to workshop knowledgebase to see what needs attention.

Easy question.
Don't use the front brake, and your fuel economy improves as a result.

Firstly because you will have less acceleration and braking, and
secondly due to it's becoming unrideable due to crashing, which will have the happy consequence of needing no fuel at all while it's off the road being rebuilt.

Result!

By the way, don't try this at home.
Or on the road.

And warm welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome.
REGRec has already been done so all good there .
It came with manual CCT so hopefully no problems with that .
Just had a read of the post 're front brake. That is quite possibly the most informed comprehensive bit of info on the web. So cbr 600 calipers if the clean up does not improve things. Has anyone else done the conversion.
I wouldn't want to change the front end, I like it a bit softer I think it is more compliant than say a blade that is just hard and a bit race track orientated.

Welcome to the club  Remember to change the calipers and the master cyl together to get the best improvement.

The fuel consumption is not as bad as you imagine, half the problem is a small tank...but you soon get used to stopping every 100 miles
