Fuel Issues?

Post by Moocher »

Another Noob question!
Are there any fuel issues that I should be aware of.
Such as:
Will modern (Green) petrol additives have an adverse effect?
Should I run it on super unleaded or Premium?

Ordinary cooking unleaded is more than enough unless you fit an ignition advancer or high comp pistons.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I recall comments somewhere that up to 10% ethanol is added to petrol and this can damage pre 2000 fuel systems. My bike is a 97 so I am concerned.

Here's where I read it: http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/wes ... pdate.html

Wouldn't worry overmuch, tbh.
It's going to be the fuel tap diaphragm that goes first.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Here in the Peoples Republic of California we have to run that @#$% in our fuel...... and I have had no ill effects on the rubber bit due to it.
There are other issues with it but I wouldn't worry about it causing any damage to the fuel system but as always YMMV

I have heard that the high ethanol can melt plastic tanks, but again, that isn't an issue on our bikes.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
