Hello forum members! Introductions first; I am an avid motorbike enthusiast, and never owned anything apart from Hondas. I currently own a VT750 ACE, and a CB600F6. Always had a soft spot for a number of Honda models, with the VTR being on the top of my list. Mainly for the large V-twin engine, twin mufflers and massive carbs!

Just got back from a short trip in the UK where I found this lovely 03 Blue Firestorm that should be in my garage by the next 2 weeks. It hasn't been used much in the past few years so oil+filter, fork oil, hydraulic fluids and carburettor cleaning are on top of the to do list. Was looking at a hugger; the one from Powerbronze (carbon fibre look) seems to be ok so might order it by this week.

Ears wide open (kind of ) for any tips you might have. I will make my best to contribute to this forum, and would like to thank everyone for the information already available!

As everyone on this forum will tell you, the very first thing you do is change your cam chain tensioners to manual. There are a post on this forum with pictures and video on to do the complete job.

Yes, I am aware that they tend to implode and cause havoc. Will order them shortly!

My VTR to be has a set of Scorpion slip-on mufflers that don't have any baffle/db killer, and unless it has been replaced already, I will use a KN or similar cotton+oil filter. Is it the general opinion to use high flow air filters , and have the jets replaced in such case? I am not aware if the carbs have been overhauled at all, and will surely remove the carbs to find out + make sure there are't any deposits from the lack of use.

Have done plenty of mods to both my bikes, and the Firestorm will be no exception...I just have to take it easy + enjoy it, and not do everything at once!

I have scorpions fitted to mine with no baffles. Scorpion cans don't need re-jetting, even with baffles out. I fitted a pipercross filter to mine, alongside Dynojet kit. You have to re-jet after filter change if you don't stay with standard. Many on here will say to stay with standard filter. I am pleased with my filter though, but had my carbs off so many times to get the fueling right.

When you do your cam chain tensioners, check your valve clearances. I have also swapped my intake cams for exhaust cams, sounds a little bit deeper but also gives a little performance boost.

To top it all off, I have also instaklled a flo-commander to fine tune the bike. Mine is soooooooo much better now, love my set-up. Trying to get it on a dyno to get my results.
