fell over in the wind, (bike) not me

Post by scouse645 »

My bike is parked under cover in my back yard, yesterday we had a gust of wind so strong it blew it over, i was a bit surprised when i looked out the window, put a whole in the cover but no damage to the bike, i think the protectors helped save any damage, just a bit of damage on the right hand bar end, i think i may have parked it too upright with a bit of wood under the stand, still didn't think it would go over 8O

3 fell over at work last night so all the bikers have put in a complaint to work as the bike park ain't protected .
Bikes keep getting knocked over by cars too .
Waiting to see what they will do now .

scouse645 Which way did it fall over? stand side or clutch cover side?

I put mine on its paddock stand and kept regular checks on it - Worried as cover could act as a sail. Previously in high winds I've wedged plastic garden chairs next to the bike so if it did tumble it would have a softish landing.

It was on the clutch cover side, i think you may be right about the cover acting as a sail, i will have to do something about that, only had the cover about 15 months and it wasn't cheap, it was leaking and now it's got a hole aswell :x

Ouch. If it was on the clutch cover side then the wood must have sat the bike too upright. It's a warning to all of us in weather like this to take precautions. I like the paddock stand idea.

Depending on the material of the cover get some fabric glue and stick a patch on.

Good idea, i don't want to be buying a new cover every year, can't see much damage, been lucky i think, it just makes you a bit sick when it happens.

Indeed couldn't agree more Carl.

With these high winds I've taken the precaution of placing a thicker, warmer blanket & a couple of fluffy pillows over Dresden, wouldn't want him getting cold out in the MacCave.

Nightmare mate I have a shared drive which opens up to two garages at the back but the wind is mad as we live on the coast so I always panic leaving her on the stand there glad there's no damage

Before I had a garage I used two ground anchors, one on the wall and one on the floor, they were home made but the house would have fell down before the bike could fall over
