Ram air ducts.

Post by tony.mon »

I'm sorting out ram air and using the triangular nose ducts- they normally just feed air to the rads, but I'm making an alternative flow provision for that- but I want to find some scoops or ducts that will fit, or can be made to fit the std holes in the fairing. They're not aerodynamically efficient, as they're at an angle and although air will flow in, I want something that guides more air in if possible.

I'm not precious about chopping the fairings about to mount it or adapt something.
Can you keep your eyes open at bike meets or in car parks, to see if anything looks likely?

It'll mean I haven't got to start making more moulds than necessary, as I'm not very good at it!

Thanks,
Tony

Wouldn't it be worth using some plastic flexi hose, similar to a hoover pipe, then you'd need to mould it to the fairing scoops.?

That's not the difficult bit, I can use the Storm interior sections and just fill the gaps and holes to make it into a section of trunking.
It even has a cutaway that looks about right for the turn into the frame hole.

I have found that using welders gloves and a hot air paint stripper gun I can just mould sections of gutter and drain pipe to the shapes I need.
It's the external part; scoops that stick out slightly from the fairing front face to gather more air in that I'm after.

Thanks for those suggestions, keep them coming!

If you can shape wood, and have a place to do some resin work, making a mold and covering with fiberglass or even Carbon fiber is not a huge deal

Tony's Mk1 Ram Air Scoop was a little on the large side to be that effective for the purpose he wanted...
