Wiring for accessories, advice appreciated.

Post by Jamoi »

Hi all, the bike is coming together nicely now and I'm at a good stage to start considering the wiring for accessories.

Give me a spanner and I'm more than happy to crack on, but when it comes to electrics, i'm pretty useless. I have tried to learn auto electrics from a book years ago but nothing made sense to me :(

I've been reading old posts and articles on google, but not much of the info seems to be getting into my thick noggin!

I like the look of the Eastern beaver fuse box thing, looks nice and neat! But I'm not sure what type I need, there's a selection of amps.

Also do I need individual relays for all the leccy gizmos? Or is the Eastern beaver 8 way box a massive relay for multiple accessories?

I'd like to have:

Symtec heated grip elements (like AMCQ46)

A cigarette lighter socket (for my phone and headset to charge up off)

That's about it really, but the option to add stuff would be nice.

Could really do with some advice on what Eastern beaver box to go for and what size cable etc! Im lost :(

Did you see this?

http://canyonchasers.net/shop/generic/relay.php

Are you looking at getting the Eagerbeaver headlight relay kit with the cermaic H4 bulb holder?

Can you solder?

If you're in tomorrow afternoon I can pop by and you can take a peek at my heated grips and relay set up Just got my multimeter, and along with my Physics O'Level and AA recovery ;-) am feeling confident...

Cheers dude, I did read a canyon chasers article but I just can't absorb the information properly.. typical yoof eh!

That would be great if you have the time to stop by, cuppa's await

I guess it makes sense to do the front headlight upgrade while it's off the road too.

I need to sell a few things to fund all the bits and bobs for the wiring, but I'd like to get it all sorted as soon as possible.

Between Halfords, Maplins and ebay they'll have all the bits for your accessories setup.

Have you got a soldering iron, crimp set?

Oh sorry, yes I forgot to say I can indeed solder and I have an iron etc. I recently aquired a crimper from the Mac cave too!

I'm happy as larry when it comes to model aircraft electronics! (Not much use really), just keep getting stumped with the info on bike electrics.
