Pitted forks tubes now what?
Two options
Look for new ones but that sounds expensive
Get mine re-chromed
Has anyone else had re chroming done.
Who did it?
How much was it?
Was it any good ?
Also
If the forks are coming off is there another job I should be doing
Head stock bearings, fork seals ect.
What do others do?
Only got 15k miles on the clock so I am hoping all else is in good order.

First check to see if there're straight before re-chroming .

I had my GT250 fork stanchions refurbished by Philpots (pittedforks) and they are a brilliant firm. The work is top quality, withstanding poor storeage for a couple of years. If I remember right they charge £120 for the pair RWU forks.

Try looking in the ads in Motorcycle Mechanics mag or one of the classic bike rags.
There's always a few in there.
Or look up hard chroming in your area, and ask if they can then regrind.

when we need to do fork tubes there are two classes.
first ABE do replacement tubes http://www.allbikeengineering.co.uk/forks.php
otherwise http://www.pittedforks.co.uk/
firstly how bad are they? secondly what is the condition of the bushes inside?
if internals are ok, remember you need new seals then ok with replacement tubes. if you want to keep your originals you can get pitted forks to strip and re chrome . this is probably the cheapest option if you feel capable.
the other option is send the forks complete to pitted forks and they will strip, clean and rebuild for you even arranging collection and delivery.
the advantage letting the do it is if they don't seal after plating they have to do it again free. I sent a set and they had to re rebuild and plate as they had a problem with chroming which meant seals didn't.
only thing to bear in mind is the bike could be on stands for weeks if they are busy. the quicker option would be to do it yourself...

There is no rust spots in the swept area. I suspect water has been trapped where braided hose and cables have laid on the tubes and a couple of 1mm spots above and just under the bottom yokes. I value all your advice and info although I am not sure if I will get the bike going with remedial work or do a complete showroom job on it.

If the spots are not in the swept area simply loosen the clamps and rotate the leg so that the spots can't be seen with the fairing on.
Before you do that a quick scuff with a file and a blob of silver hammerite will protect it.

clear nail varnish just as good looks better than hammerite and borrow when the mrs isn't in
