LED replacement headlight

Post by mik_str »

Stumbled across this in the latest issue of Motoryclist magazine:
EC - LED Headlight Bulb - H4 High/Low

May have to give it a try at some point.....

According to links figures it pumps out significantly more light than standard for less input watts - handy of you run heated grips and other accessories so you don't use more than the alternator pumps out. According to EagerBeaver with a 100W bulb you risk melting stuff (see below)…

mik_str Any real world reviews on how it performs?
If you're thinking to put in a higher wattage bulb, I highly recommend you do not do that. I've tried a few and they just scatter any extra light, plus you can
melt plastic or rubber around the headlight. Jim Davis, Owner, Eastern Beaver Company:

wicky,
I have been running a 100/55 bulb in mine [with the eastern beaver kit] for about 5 yrs with no problems, and the full beam is fantastic. i think the trick is not to have a high wattage on the dip beam as that is used day time and in towns where the ambient temp is also higher, but full beam is only ever at night and generally a lot faster airflow over the headlamp.

A lot of LED bulbs are expensive. Have ever been into B&Q to buy LED low energy replacement bulbs. :Shock1: :eek2 it soon adds up when you need more than one.

Interesting - though will it fit in the space of the VTR's fairing with the cooling gubbins at the back of the bulb...

I asked the same question of the seller of this one http://www.electricalconnection.com/oth ... -hl-h4.htm. he immediately replied, but said he would double check the measurement I requested before answering me... Supposed to hear back by morning.

I just had a quick measure behind the H4 connector, looks to be around 30mm at the tightest spot at the top of the connector.

Also, do LED's get brighter with small increases in power? I.e an Eastern Beaver kit.
