Forks - Refitting

Post by Mav617 »

Ey up fellas,

My newly rebuilt forks are back in the yokes, would you put them back as standard or is there any advantage in moving them up in the yokes a bit to improve the steering?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

If you've had Roger Ditchfield breath on them, I found a starting point of 5mm more of the fork stanchions sticking up above the top yoke a good balance.

Hey Mav, Roger Ditchfield recommends 5mm for road bikes and 8mm for race bikes. I went 4mm and it has made a very positive change.

Livened up the handling a treat and remains very stable.

I'd recommend no drop if you have the 6mm shock spacer fitted, to start with, then try 2mm at a time as you get used to them.
It can all get a bit slappy WOT leant over if the road isn't smooth (over cat's eyes, for example.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Good advice, thanks guys. I have the 6mm spacer but not fitted yet as can't get the back end off the floor (Abba stand mod not done yet).
