Front Sprocket Inspection

Post by Mav617 »

Have never even seen the front sprocket - the rear one wasn't too bad (replaced with new one, 1 tooth higher). As I've only done 300 miles since buying it, thought I'd better have a look. Is it right I have to take the clutch cover off, and do I need to pull the lever in first and tie it to the bars just to get at the front sprocket?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Yup that's the way to do it to save having to rebleed the clutch.

Best to replace chain & sprockets all together. Otherwise its like changing your socks one at a time…

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Yeah, that's what I figured - anyone got a good, standard front sprocket for sale?

I hope you mean Sprocket cover, you don't want to be taking the clutch cover off.

Cheers Lloydie, have ordered a standard one. Thanks to Lee also for his kind offer.

Aye, but the sprocket cover means removal of the clutch slave cylinder cover also apparently.

You can remove the sprocket cover with the clutch slave still attached. You have to remove either one or two (sorry can't remember) outside bolts on the slave as they also hold the sprocket cover on. Leave the others in on the slave and remove the sprocket cover with slave still attached.

Loosen the front sprocket bolt before removing the rear wheel or cutting the old chain off

Leave this one dun up as it holds the slave to the cover all the others hold the cover to the engine
