Bar risers and maybe a new seat cover??

Post by Lord Flasheart »

Evening all,
After a bit of a longer ride to and from work today I think I'm going to need to raise the bars slightly. Being a tall chappy I felt like I was really perched over the bike, plus a bad biking accident a few years back ha left me with a dodge wrist. So fitting a set or risers has been added to the list of things I need to do! This is probably second to fitting the manual CCT's or at least do the stopper mod!
Another...interesting problem I found was I kept sliding forward on the seat and crushing the old love spuds on the tank. Maybe raising the bars will help stop it happening, but it's very annoying!
All that being said though I was still grinning like a fat kid in a sweet shop all the way to work, and even took the long way home :D

Bane of my life currently  I'm looking at fitting some stomp grips to the tank, apparently they'll help alleviate the issue

Was thinking recovering the seat in a slightly less slippery material, but I'll try the stomp grip approach first. Cheers boys!

If you do decide to go the seat recovery route, this guy has good reviews from quite a few people on here and the Facebook owners group(s)

If it's the wrist action that is an issue then you could also consider installing a Quick Action Throttle tube like HRC or equivalent. This gives less twist on the throttle to get to wide open and stops the double wrist action movement required with the standard throttle tube and add less stress on the wrist at larger throttle opening cruising down motorways.

I'm not a fan of renthal bars and opted for later model storm clip on's which are raised 15.6mm and angle more upwards 7 degrees. And they come in the faster colour  along with a HRC QAT.

No clearance issues or having to trim the fairing.

I don't think it was the wrist action just how far down I was having to lean. Like the sound of the later model clip on's seeing as no trimming is required! If the one's you linked has sold I shall be trawling eBay later!

The late model clip-ons are good, I don't recall ever having any wrist pain except during an hour of 25mph filtering down the M42 :(

I've ridden with Renthals (or whatever Lloydie uses) and they're just not as comfortable for me. Try testing both out beforehand because YMMV

Are you referring to the angle of wrist at wide open throttle. By wrist action what I mean is as standard you open the throttle to about half way and to go wide open comfortably without putting a silly angle on the wrist, one has to reposition the angle of hand around the grip, kinda double take. A QAT throttle stops this as you only have to opent the throttle half or less than standard to get to WOT.

Gripping the bars to tight will do this. Relax....

Ah right I'm with you now. I'm not sure, if it's worse when it close to being wide open but then I've only done 50 miles on her and maybe a 3rd of that was slow stuff around town. I shall try to get out at the weekend for a longer ride!

As fpr seat covers, Gabi used non-slip mat in black on his seat, stapled in under it and not only does it look good it stops any movement. I'll be doing mine when I get some black non-slip stuff (not the white the wife came home with!!)
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

I don't think extra grip on the seat is the way to go. After all you want to be able to move around on the seat and get your derrière hanging off the edge. Plus shifting around on the seat while riding is handy for comfort/stretching on longer journeys. Grip with you legs on the tank to stop sliding forward or buy a codpiece.

Well I'm having Bigtwinthing's clip on's off him, so hopefully that will help with the plum crushing! Only riding bikes with a more upright riding position with a wide seat, I've never really moved about much on the bike (still managed to scrub my chicken strips off last summer) so hanging off the bike feels wrong. I'm sure it will come with practice though. Plan on doing a track day at some point this year, or maybe even a race school??

For improvements in comfort on the cheap, I'd recommend tank grippers to help your legs take some of your upper body weight under braking.

Also having just done this myself, re covering the seat in faux suede or Alacantra is great for a bit more lower body grip, without it being restrictive. When I move about on the bike in the corners I don't slide, I lift my butt up a few mm and reposition accordingly, I think it's pretty common practice tbh.

And with the bars, looks like you're heading in the right direction with the later model items
