Reserve Fuel

Post by Shauned71 »

This may be covered in a topic somewhere but right now I'm having connections issues so struggling a bit looking through the site, not sure if work being done in area or what. Just posting while I think of it...

Is there anyway of adjusting the float etc in tank so the fuel light comes on a bit sooner. I have swapped over to a 19 lt tank but unless my bike is getting worse on fuel consumption I think once light is on that I only have around 10 - 12 miles left in reserve. Was wondering if it was simply as take tank internals out, little tweak on the float arm.. that's assuming that is how it works. Just wanted to pick some brains before I mess with it.

Lee had the same problem and yes that is how it works with the early ones as it's a sender unit not a float. It stays in one place and as the fuel level drops and reaches the sender the RLOD comes on.

There some pics of a float from a 19L tank in the following thread which should give you an idea of the shape to bend it too.
