954 fork recall !
Don't know if you guys know this but honda did a recall on the 954 for a few things .
One being the forks !
It's the fork lowers that crack when the lower pinch bolts are tightened up so honda did a recall to replace them .
Might be something to look at next time your with your precious

Good shout Lloyd
Is that for all years? This should be linked up with the fork upgrade threads as it's a safety thing.

Re: 954 fork recall !
All 954 years
Re: 954 fork recall !
929's as well. Honda sent out recall letter on 14th Feb 2006 - It states model year 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Problem is IDing which ones they've done as Honda probably did it by frame no. Tricky if they've been transplanted...They replace the cast lower and the chrome stanchion as one lump.
Forks out, strip down, replace stanchion and lower casting. Rebuild using your original inners and upper tubes. If you ask them nicely they give you fresh oil. Re-fit forks. Takes about three hours.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: 954 fork recall !
I mentioned the recall in Tonys thread when he was trying to get the lower castings of the tubes.
Now repeat after me... I must pay more attention in class.. I must pay more attention in class... I must... etc
Definitely worth bringing this subject up again though and making a sticky

yup I already knew this, its another risk when buying second hand cbr929/954 forks, you have to assume that blade owners got them changed, i'd assume most would have knowing the seriousness of the problem. it always good to give them a visual check tho....

There was recalls on our bikes too with the fuel tap diaphragm.

Maybe this should be added to that thread and the thread re-named Honda Recalls or Bike Part Recalls or something and stickied. It keeps everything in one place then and easy to find.
Strangely though I have noticed a lot of forks on eBay are damaged in that area, but always assumed they where crash damaged.

Re: 954 fork recall !
most if not all will be crash damaged, they are blade forks after all, if the forks had been taken to Honda for the recall, they would have been humanely disposed of by honda....

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: 954 fork recall !
only effected a very small number world wide iirc.
had mine changed 2007 and the guy at branson honda told me that
the only 954's so far effected were in canada and north america.
he said HRC thought the problem was caused by condensation getting in between the
lower fork stanstion and axle casting (freezing, expanding and cracking the casting
round the top.)
he also said that all effected 954's had been subjected to sub zero temperature's.
probably left out door's overnight. and that their had not been a case (so far) of any bike's
affected in the uk or western europe.
i tried my hardest to buy them back. was looking for some for thre VTR at the time.thought i was on a winner NO WAY. told they were all being destroyed.
perfectly good pair of fork leg's. what a SHAME. whatever happened to commom sense??????

Wonder why they haven't caused a problem here?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
