Fork hight
Hi all, spent some time fitting a CBR600 shock to my Storm as I'm a bit short and light for the standard unit and found my ass leaving the seat over bumps etc. have already fitted the Hyper pro front kit with a 2 to 3mm drop. Now the geometry has shifted I find steering has gone back to the standard sluggish feel so could do with some reference point on seat hight and fork drop, I see most recommend 5mm to a possible 10 but how does that compare to say the top of the rear light with rider on board. Ta
Ps the shock was shorter so modified a standard bottom swivel to get the extra hight and clearance on the swing arm and works well the remote gas canister can mount directly to the underside of the battery tray.

Re: Fork hight
Either drop the front a little more or raise the back some if its sluggish to turn in.
Personally I would raise the back (even if you are a short ass
) first, by 3 mm increments, until you get the feel you are looking for. If you go rear end first you won't have to deal with lack of ground clearance issues at full lean like you might with dropping the front too much.

My new ride is a bit of a Howler and I love to make her Squeal
Re: Fork hight
Out of interest what was the overall length of the new shock you modified (eye centre to centre) and when you say sluggish, are you referring to the turn in, going wide at the exit of the corner or all of it?
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

Re: Fork hight
Hi, cant remember exactly but it was either 30 or 40mm shorter. It's hard to turn in all the way and certainly lost the planted feel. Agreed I could just keep upping the preload until it gets better but would appreciate a floor to top of light measurement just to make sure my butt isn't massively out. Before I found the ride height almost didn't move with me on or off the bike but now I'm seeing about an inch at the tail so certainly need a starting point if anyone can assist.
Re: Fork hight
The first thing I would suggest you do is get the new shock somewhere near to the original length of 375mm (eye to eye) and then make it longer in mm increments, as mentioned, to get the last changes you want.
People could give you a height measurement to a reference point but that can change according to tyre choice, shock length and even where the back wheel is if they have changed sprockets.
Can you include a picture of the modified bottom swivel that gave you all the extra shock length?

Re: Fork hight
Blimey where did that figure come from. You got things on you mind mate.original length of 375mm (eye to eye)
Original eye to eye is 346mm then add a few mm shock spacer, drop forks etc if required.
Mac do you do candles for them

Yep.. sorry the 7 is just above the 4 on the keyboard numbery thing on the side and think I caught it by mistake!

I think he may have realised that was a little wrong when his rear light was around five feet from the ground!

Re: Fork hight
GL - how do you suggest I increase the length of the shock? Remember this is a much sorter unit so I will have to increase the pre load to correct, if there's know one out there with a standard storm and a tape measure I would be surprised.
Re: Fork hight
Surely if you get the rear light at the measured height of standard set up you'll be back where you started before you lowered it?!

Re: Fork hight
Thanks but I already know the standard shock length and putting the rear height back to standard will put the geometry and weight balance over the front end correct for my weight but with the much better felling cbr shock. I gotta say for someone who is simply trying to find a cheap mod for all I would have expected someone to grab a tape.
