whilst browsing the interweb last night, I watch a video clip that I wished I hadn't, now like most of you I love the isle of man tt. and as some of you also know, this year two riders lost their lives over the week.
like an idiot I watched the video clip of bob price's accident, and I instantly wished I hadn't seen it. and as things stand, it has turned me off of the tt, my attitude might change in time, but after watching the accident its hard to see the point.

I'll leave all accidents, especially fatal ones to my imagination thanks mate, in fact I'd rather not think about them . As for what's the point? We all gotta go some time, and these people love what they do, know the risks and I'm sure if they'd had a choice they'd want to go doing something they love. People die in all sports/activities, it's just sad that biking/racing only makes the press for negatives! I'll stop there as I'm off on one .

it was horrific, and i was amazed at the marshals actions, nothing seemed to be done initially, they may not have been time but it does seem surreal. Very sad and not nice to see

well i think its easy to see that and take the stance of "anti-TT"

the fact is riders die every year. really great, really young guys with wives and kids and lives. its sad. especially when it happens year after year after year. the bottom line is that many more riders die on the streets every year. people die every day when they are doing things that are statistically pretty safe.

in a world of rules and regulations where health and safety is forced down peoples throats via laws, its nice to have things like the TT. where people can partake in a bit of madness and a lot of risk all in the name of motorbike glory. the riders full well know the real risks involved. all of them are a close nit group and have had many friends die in the races over the years. some are more lucky than others but all of them are legends. theres nothing in the world like the TT and i think thats why it continues on every year. its hands down the greatest event in motor sports in the world.

i'm not saying that the tt should end, personally I've just lost interest after viewing that video, to me it wouldn't seem a big deal to have put some sort of safety barrier in place, something to cushion the impact, the man hit the side of a pub at 50+ mph, it seems crazy not to have a barrier of some sort set up against the wall.
I know its impossible to put barriers everywhere on the tt course, but in those areas where theres a bridge/jump followed by the side of a ferking building!!!!!!
it just doesn't make sense.
I have nothing but admiration for all the riders, I just think bob's death could have been avoided. and I know people will say, of course it could be avoided, bob didn't have to race, no one forced him, it was his choice, and yes he and the others were doing something they loved, but doesn't mean a lot to the family and friends of those left behind....
I will say this, the video I watched did show the time scale in which the medics arrived, and that was impressive, bob was in a helicopter in just over 15 mins...

like Lloydie, I saw the Simonchelli crash live on TV so that was unavoidable, but I would not go looking for replays of fatal crashes, nor do I dwell too long on the fact that a motorbike was a factor in loss of friends like Benny................ its not going the help fix anything by digging through the gory details.

we know the risk is there, its a part of motorcycling [and more so real road racing] and we have to factor the risk into how we ride. but its not good to focus on the -ve in isolation, there is so much +ve also there that makes us love it..................the TT is a great example of this, for the riders and the fans the good bits are so good that they are prepared to accept the risks

Marty I don't know which vid you saw but there are a couple up. The ones looking down the road towards the pub don't show it but there was another vid,the point of view was from the side of the pub.There was a huge square red foam barrier thing. He either missed it or it moved due to the angel of impact.

Despite the deaths safety has improved immensely over the years at the TT. At the end of the day it's a public road not a race track there are things at the side of the road for riders to hit & they will hit them if things go wrong. The riders know this but they still go there to race simply because it's what they want to do. No one forces them to race there do they.

you are right about the red crash matting, but it only covered a third of the wall, and poor bob missed it to the left, why not cover the whole wall, for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, then just maybe bob would still be here....

And yeh I'm sick enough to have watched the clip but then I like to watch autopsy's and operation (operation theatre) programmes too.
