Roadworks

Post by Kev L »

I don't know if it's the same all around this fair nation of ours, but I'm getting sick to death of the amount of road surfacing that's going on in Herts/Essex. Not the proper lift the surface and renew but the "stick down some sticky sh1t then throw loose chippings over it" job. I thought initially this was a pre-cursor to a proper job but they have now renewed the lines on the surface.
This surface when it was first put down was bloody slippery, so they put danger of skidding max speed 20mph signs out. Now the surface has been compressed enough by passing traffic, they have removed all the signs and painted the lines, but not removed the excess stones in the centre and sides of the carriageway, areas traditionally occupied by the most vulnerable of road users.
Worst of all they have done my favourite bit of nadgery road, the A507 down to Letchworth. Baastards.

It's worse than when they decide to fill potholes with massive rocks that don't fit evenly and get sent all over the road by the first vehicle that goes anywhere near it!

I don't understand how it's acceptable to smother roads with crap and not clear off the excess after they've finished. I wonder how you'de stand if you dropped the bike under heavy braking due to the detritus left behind. Prefer not to try it out though!

According to this they should brush up surplus stones approx 36 hours later

I once crashed on surface dressing chippings (no warning road signs and unlit road) and it took me two years to get compensation. At the very last moment just before it was going to court the council settled out of court.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Down here they tend to put fresh tar then roll chippings into them, bloody treacherous when they start coming loose again, they think the 40mph roads are then ok.Iam very selective where i ride and give it some!!! My mate ( from lancs) came down here 4 yrs ago on a newish repsol Blade, i was running him out and he zapped bye, next bend, loose chippings and a horrendous front end off. Almost every panel on the LHS was buggered.
we both blubbed!
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
