Problem with bitzforbikes

Hello!

And first, sorry about my English. It's not my native language. Having that out of the way, I have a question.

Which one of us do you think is wrong, me or bitzforbikes? I bought a pair of front brake pad pins from them via ebay. The pins turned out less than satisfactory and I complained, but they claimed to have no liability. Here's our email exchange so far:

Dear aughacashel,

The pins you sent me are too short. Full 10mm shorter than the originals and more importantly not reaching the hole in the brake caliper it's supposed to reach. I tried. And as I tried, I also noticed that the one I used was also crooked. The pin was waiving around when I turned it into the threads. So I don't think it's fair to make me pay for the return of inferior quality product that was all wrong in the first place. What's your opinion?

Dear kum1ankka,

Hi, can you confirm that the pins match the dimensions on the listing diagram?

Dear aughacashel,

They do. The problem is that the dimension D (and B also obviously) needs to be about 5mm more. I trusted your model specific listing and did not measure the original pins before ordering.

Dear aughacashel,

What about the issue of at least one of the pins being bent?

Hi, have you got an image of the damaged pin?

Dear aughacashel,

Better! I shot a video: It clearly shows how the pin wiggles around when turned meaning the pin itself and the threaded part are not in line. At the end of the video I tried to demonstrate what I mean by the pin not being long enough, it's non tapered portion is not reaching the hole at the other half of the caliper.

Dear kum1ankka,

Hi, as we have never had a report of a bent pin from the many thousands we have sold I can only put this down to installation.

Dear aughacashel,

That's just ridiculous. I suppose you have never had anyone complaining about the pins being too short for their VTRs either? Now are we going to be able to settle this in some manner satisfying us both? Getting a bit tired of you not taking responsibility of selling poor quality product that doesn't fit the application specified in the listing.

Dear kum1ankka,

Hi, no, no report of that either.
I can refund upon receipt bus having sold the goods listed I am not liable for your postage.

Dear aughacashel,

So let's say I'd have to pay another £ 4.50 for sending the pins back (which I think is close), I'd get a refund of £ 11.90. This would have me paying £ 9 for your misleading listing, and still no pins. You have a weird definition of Paul Smeeton's "pride in providing the best service to his customers."

Dear kum1ankka,

As I said the part supplied matches the dimensions provided on the auction, so we are not liable for postage costs if these weren't checked.

Many thanks, Greg

Dear aughacashel,

So you're going to keep on selling the too short pins to other VTR owners who are not alert enough to check the dimensions but trust your make, model and even year model specific listing?

- kum1ankka

Greg hasn't anwered the last question yet, and I doubt he ever will. What ever the outcome, don't make the same mistake I did...

I might be being stupid here, but are they CBR600 F4i calipers?

I'm fairly certain storm calipers are gold standard, or have you had yours painted at some point in the past?

They are storm calipers .
Some years were black

They should be original. My bike is year 2005. I didn't care the listing being for year 2001 because I was fairly sure they are the same. And the part numbers for both years match in for example hondaparts-direct.com.

Yeh the callipers are the same for all years. The only difference is the colour.

I'm on your side there as the video clearly shows a fault and there no way bad installation would do that unless you gave it a good clump with a hammer beforehand  It's like they are saying that they don't believe you. They should just apologise and send you two new pins, no questions asked. It's not as if they cost a fortune. Oh well, maybe their reputation doesn't mean much too them.

eBay listings can be dodgy depending on how they are worded and/or misleading pics. I hate they way some people/bushinesses sell low valued stuff, possibly knowing it''s not quite right (I'm not saying that's the case here) and knowing that it's more trouble/expense for one to post the item back as a return. So basically the customer looses out and the company has made a few ££££, ££££ or Euro.

If people deal in something they should know what they are dealing in and send the right parts...or the wrong parts, by accident, there should be no in-between.

I dont think OP should have to foot the bill, I had this recently with a part where the chap started giving me measurements, I just said ' look the parts in the bike and I cant take it out till I got a replacement so I dont know the dimensions, so this one should fit....yes?"

TBH if they aren't doing well enough to cover the cost of replacement pins just to keep a customer happy
