Flat tyre woes
Flat tyre woes
Went out to look at the bike on Monday morning and noticed I had a flat back tyre.
Pumped it back up and checked for the cause but couldnt see anything obvious
The valve was changed still the same, so i ordered some Goop tyre sealant of EBay , anybody any thoughts on this product

Not good getting a flat !
The tyre man will slap you for using that stuff when you get new rubber fitted and then slap you with a large bill .
I have read good things about it tho

Re: Flat tyre woes
I'll probably take the tyre off myself as the wheel will be going in for powder coating, but as the tyre is only half worn it won't be till next year, will it be that messy then?

Re: Flat tyre woes
Very messy and hard to remove that gunk as its right sticky sh1t
Re: Flat tyre woes
It wont matter as Mr powder coater will blast it off for me, he he !!
Re: Flat tyre woes
Anyone used this stuff or similar?
Re: Flat tyre woes
By the way i think tyre weld is purely to get you home, this stuff I think is different
Re: Flat tyre woes
You may have a leak around the bead, in which case gloop or similar would likely be OK, but as Llloyd said the tyre fitters don't like the stuff. Personally with a slow puncture I would just put air in more often and monitor things. If you have a nail or something in the tyre then use a plug kit.

Yes I used to be a big fan of "Ultra seal" now called "Punctures safe". I used the product for many years without any problems, although in that time I was fortunate enough not to have a puncture, so I can't comment on how good it would in that event. The reason I stopped using it was because I had to replace both wheels on my Firestorm due to corrosion and very bad pitting at the wheel tyre bead area, meaning both wheels would no longer stay air tight. I did contact Puncture safe over this corrosion problem, but of course they said it was not their product that caused the corrosion, they said it was more likely the tyre soap the tyre fitters used. Unable to prove who's product was to blame, and two replacement wheels later I no longer use this Puncture safe. I can dig out some photo's if you're interestedkev64 wrote:Anyone used this stuff or similar?

Re: Flat tyre woes
if it's a puncture just plug it, Mizzy will be along soon to explain no issues. I'm sure he finished Op SW Scotland then did 2 track days on his. saying that it as the ever proficient AMcQ that did the plugging! !
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time

Re: Flat tyre woes
I hate the stuff, if I know it's in there I at least have a chance of avoiding some of it. when you break the bead it explodes out all over the tyre machine, floor and up my overalls, even in my face on one occasion, then when clamped it goes all over the table. Pain in the butt to clean it all up. difficult to outwardly charge more as that would upset customers and I've usually already quoted a price, I don't forget who's bikes have had it in though
If the gloop works and you see a nail/screw in there how do you know how big it is and how far in it's gone, it could be through to the sidewall and while your happily riding along with your gloop keeping the tyre up the nail is scraping through the inside of the sidewall
Best to plug the tyre if you get a puncture or fit a new one. I will only repair a rear if the puncture is in the centre 50% of the tyre and not at a steep angle, I don't repair fronts.
As to the flat in question, if there's no obvious puncture and no air leaking from the valve it's probably corrosion on the rim, I notice in your profile picture you have polished rims, so bare metal. Although it maybe a small tack or thorn in the tyre you can't see.
