Bloody battery died and left me in the butt end of nowhere pushing the beast for 2 miles got love it

I hope not as I have already replaced that with a finned one, it was probably the fact that I hadn't ridden it for a couple months and charged the battery up enough to start it... and then went for a blatt and pulled over for a smoke turned it off and oopsy not enough juice to start it...

get a good quality battery, the big twins take a lot of umph to get em going
finned r/r's have been known to fail as well mate.....

Thanks dude, I was thinking of a Motobatt battery... is there an easy way to check the R&R? I only put it on a year ago...

you'll need a multimeter to check the r/r, have a search thru the workshop section for details, I've used a couple of motobatts, very good batteries, the only thing to be careful of, is not to cross thread the two small bolts for the positive/negative leads, as they are a soft metal....

Sounds like battery - even a maintenance free battery needs care & attention. Trickle charging at least every couple of weeks to keep it topped up. Leaving it to go flat can permanently damage the battery.

Bung a new battery in and run a multimeter over the charging system to rule out any other problem.

I know.... I have been sloppy recently so will keep battery trickling like you say, I really dont want to push it for another 2 miles again it was sweatty stuff

I picked up a yuasa battery for a very reasonable price a couple of months back off of ebay, that's my preference

Bad luck that , I have a optimate on my VTR just plugged in and connected I have
never had a problem ... good luck

I've heard people say the motobatt wont fit in the space properly and the cover won't go on. In the battery box there are strips of foam on the under side of the lid and in the bottom of the tray, you need to at least remove the ones from the underside of the lid, maybe from the tray too (can't remember) then the battery will fit, it will be tight and difficult to remove again but it will fit and the lid too..
