Downpipe Dillema
Downpipe Dillema
After reading a recent thread about cleaning the exhaust downpipework , i decided to give this laborious task a go,also im stuck on afternoons with plenty of quiet times during the shift.
Believe me its hard graft, and after 2 shifts im slowly getting there.
Im now having thoughts of just polishing the pipework (not sure i like the discolourasion of the pipes) or my new thought was to spray it all satin black !!!
Anybody had any success with painting exhausts ?

Re: Downpipe Dillema
I think satin black just burns off. I got mine powder coated with some special heat resistant powder coat but that burnt off as well
Re: Downpipe Dillema
The only thing I know that will work is Vitreous Enamel, same as you ge ton roasting times etc. I used to develop gas and electric fires and we used to get what we called glass flake coating for fire internals. You can get all colours and finishes, even metal looking.
But beware it is brittle but hard wearing.

I have a set of downpipes that I got from GLSR and they were painted matt black......... it has proved to be robust so far, no problem with heat causing it to burn off.
hopefully Mark will be along to tell us what he painted them with.
you can see the downpipes here from underneath , the discolouration is just dirt, once washed they are matt black again

and from the side
