Hi,
I have been offered a 98 firestorm at a price I cant turn down. I also own two early (86 and 87) Vfrs
I sold my 1990 cbr600 and rather than the cash sit in the bank, im going to "invest" the money.
The bike I am looking at is totally standard in every way.
I am aware of certain "problems" that these bike have. I dont mind a little tinkering.
However the biggest concern I have with this bike is the rear suspension, It seems very hard. I've read about seizing linkages, but could it be as simple as a too high setting on the compression setting.
Here's hoping for a happy time with my new bike.
Oh. I'm from Lancashire by the way.

Roger

welcome to the forum buddy, vtr rear shock is pretty firm to begin with, good for hefty people, not so good for lightweights....
but deffo check the linkage as it's a known issue if not checked.

Hi,
I also have 2 VFR's an 86 and an 87, great do it all bikes, edit : just clocked your user name, hiya from the VFR forum
A standard Firestorm rear shock isn't adjustable for compression damping, the shock can feel hard, it's not the best quality, the rebound adjustment isn't fine enough and it can also bottom out. it's ok for a lot of people a lot of the time but if you want it better buy a Nitron or similar, also you'll notice the soft front forks, easy fix with heavier springs. These bike can be got going good for a few cheap mods, if your getting the bike cheap it's worth the investment.. There's no harm in stripping, cleaning, re-greasing the suspension linkages, you can do it whilst modding or fitting manual cam chain tensioners ;)

Thats ok.
Im a big lad.
Hi popkat. Saw your name and did wonder.
Its a nice example, there is a little corrosion on the subframe and fork lowers could do with a repaint. But got to be worth the ahem £700 cough cough he wants.
Any one have a piccie of a standard shock?

Hello and welcome ,
How much do you weigh ?
OEM STD shock use level 1 up to 80kg rider weight .
Level 2 for 80kg – 100kg and so on

Thanks and hello,
Notification are now working
I have just been reading up on the cct replacements. I have never had to bother with this with my other bikes. Two vfrs and an old cbr600. The vfrs use gears to drive the cams. I did buy a mcct for the 600, but I never fitted it.

Thanks.
I take it the adjuster at the bottom of the shock is a damping setter.
