VTR with Air Ram

Post by Chipset »

Hi guys

Can anyone explain to me what does it means by ' VTR with Air Ram'
As far as my concern I know Suzuki 750 comes with Air Ram where this bike has no engine braking and its good for racing.
Does it same for VTR? How can we modify VTR to have Air Ram?
Please advice

Regards
Chips :confused :confused :confused

Morning Mr Chips

Assuming you're talking about the silver storm in the gallery

http://www.abercon.co.uk/vtr1000/displa ... Revolution VTR with ram air

As standard the Storm sucks what air it requires into its airbox through a little snorkel at the front. The ducts by the headlight are cosmetic/cooling.

However the one in the pic has a RAM air system (moriwaki I think) which uses these ducts to force feed the airbox. Obviously the faster you go the more air is rammed into the airbox and the more power you get

HOWEVER
It is not just a case of bolting these tubes on coz you need a sealed airbox to make use of this pressure increase and the fuelling needs tweaking to match which is a bit of a bitch to set up.

WHY?
Scenario 1) You're tooling along at 40mph there's gonna be naff all ram air effect so you don't need that much fuel.
Scenario 2) You're doing 140mph there'll be a lot of air, so more fuel required.
If you setup the carbs for scenario 2 they'll be way too rich in scenario 1 and vice-versa

Hope this helps

Ben
