Fitting Road Legal Cans

Post by dm1663 »

Hello
I've just bought some Blueflame cans, the ones with the removable baffles. Fitting them was no problem, even for somebody of my limited technical ability. They sound great but I have a question.
When you close the throttle they make a popping sound and it runs a bit rough than before, I've got no problem with this, in fact it sounds good but do I need to get the fueling adjusted or have anything else done? How will this effect the fuel consumption? Your recommendations and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
dm.

When I fitted my Art cans (non road legal) my fuel economy improved.

As for the sound, there is a particular Merc owner that has pissed me off a bit who lives up the road, I love setting her car alarm off in the mornings with the sound waves :P

Same here, ART Race cans..........loud, bit of a pop on over-run. check for air leaks at join..........have you used new gasket inside the pipe?

My mpg is better, how does this happen ? any one know why ?
it may be clever, but its not big.

Try sealing all the joints with RTV high temp silicone sealant, to stop drawing cold air in the joints and causing the cold air to expand (or so I have been told) and make the popping noise.

What like was the "fit" of the Blue Flame cans? as I had a bit of a fiddle to get mine near enough.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice.
I didn't use any sealant, just tightened everything up as hard as I could.
As for the fit, I found the right hand pipe was fine but the left would not go fully onto the down pipe because of the bracket that bolts to the foot peg holds it back by about 1/2 an inch. This left pipe also comes out a bit further as the down pipe exits perpendicular to the bike. this means the link pipe has to make a right angle and I could not get the two pipes at the same angle from horizontal. This does mean that the two pipes are not symmetrical. I got it as close as possible.
I contacted blueflame who were helpful, but pointed out that due to the drivechain the rear of the bike was not symmetrical and they are a pain to line up.

Any chance you could post a piccie of what it looks like now? I'm thinking of fitting blueflames myself. Just wanted to see how it looks, esp on the left hand side if you had problems. Did you get Hi or Lo level?
Drink to contentment not to capacity. I just haven't figured out which comes first.

A carb balance should stop the popping...

I have Blue Flames on mine as well - Round Alloy, non road legal.
Can send you pics, just send me a PM as the Gallery is out of service at the mo...
