QA/RC45 Throttle Tube

Post by mattster »

I feel slightly bad adding to the many posts on this site extolling the virtues of adding a QA throttle tube to the storm.... but I just have to say:

IT'S THE BEST THING EVER!!!!! :D  :D  :D  :D

£20ish from Silvers, 45 mins to fit (had to disconnect throttle cables from the carbs to get enough slack), but it feels amazing!

Feels like the bike now has an extra paddock of ponies, but it's simply just being able to get on the power so much quicker.

If you're considering getting rid of your storm, spend £20 on it first.... you won't regret it! :)

Nothing at all - some people manage that fine... Perhaps they have better wrist dexterity than I do? :D With the standard tube I had to reposition my hand on the grip halfway through to be able to reach full throttle. Not every intuitive and not very quick...

Being able to go from fully closed to fully open in a quarter turn makes it much easier to get the power on..

Yep, did mine last year and it was an awesome inexpensive mod...

If you swapped the throttle tube and didn't remove the "push" throttle cable, then you're really missing out on a great free mod. Try it and you'll never look back. Better throttle action, very light and easy like a motocross bike.

I've had mine for a few years, very good mod, you do have to be smoother with the throttle on wet or greasy roads tho.

that's a good question, but you would be surprised how much better [and faster] the bike feels with a QAT, and also how many time you find the throttle is at the end stop when accelerating.

like AP says, you need a smother wrist action in 1st gear wet roundabouts, but as we are all a bunch of fiddler, we should have no problem with wrist action :D

Ummm... You do know the "stock" tube is 1\4 turn?

It is always funny to me when I hear "Oh I can't open up the stock throttle"......makes me wonder what you guys would do on an old bike that really does have a long throttle pull......

Anyways, if it works for you, great

Personally, I did try the RC45 tube but the short throw made the throttle a bit too touchy at higher RPMs with the 1\6 turn throttle tube....then again I have been told it is because I don't know how to ride.......

for me it was about not having that annoying reposition of the hand to gain full throttle, it gets tiresome after a while. and if your bike isn't fuelling correctly or the drive train is snatchy, then this will be exaggerated by the 1/6turn throttle tube.
but as my bikes running smoothly the 1/6 turn hrc throttle tube works a treat......

Carpel tunnel surgery and arthritis say a quick turn is a must.

Didnt know that about the RC45, may look into that.
