Calliper Cleaning
Think I need to replace the pads fairly soon and I would like to give the callipers a once over. Normally I just use brake cleaner but this time I would like to do a more thorough job. So, I'm looking for your advice on cleaning the brake callipers.

Doing one calliper at a time, take one off and allow all the pistons to extend out a couplt of mm from the calliper body. Then with a load of cotton buds and some brake fluid clean all the crap off them.
By the time you've finished you should be able to push each of the pistons back into the body of the calliper using your fingers and they should all extend freely.
If you can't push them back without using some sort of too ( such as plumers pliers & a rag to protect the callipers/pistons ) then the dirt may have managed to work down the bore of the calliper and behind the sealing o-ring. If that's the case then you'll need to strip them and clean out the o-ring groove in the calliper and fit new seals and o-rings.
